DKosty123 This film has aged, but it is so funny still as the jokes never really get old. It starts with a farcical meeting of Middle East Leaders in Beiruit, Lebanon, and then delves into a credit sequence so classic that is was recently borrowed and enhanced on one of those Seth Mcfarlene animated series. (or was it another series).So where do we belong here? OJ Simpson gets drilled by gunmen before his infamous murder trial and still people do not get where this movie is going? There is so much going on and so many cameos from famous folks in the era that even the Queen of England though central to the plot is really a second fiddle here.Ricardo Montoban is a prefect straight man to play the main bad guy who bumbles his way along a step behind Frank Drevin (Neilsen). The roles are so perfect that everyone in the movie shines. Even Reggie Jackson gets treated better here than he did when he introduced Reggie candy bars.The throw away lines in this one are better than a lot of comedy films. I have to wonder if the writers on an inside joke were sticking their tongs out at a public not smart enough to watch Police Squad? Could be

classicsoncall Relatively young viewers won't be in on the opening scene gag when a host of terrorist world leaders get spoofed - Idi Amin, Yasser Arafat, Muammar Khaddafi, Mikhail Gorbachev and Ayatollah Khameini. There's even a Vladimir Putin look alike who turns out to be a guy named Pahpshmir later on in the story; that was kind of prescient as Putin himself didn't come on the world scene until around 1999/2000. So was that a lucky prophetic guess or what? I just have to shake my head.I like these kinds of films where the sight and sound gags come a mile a minute, they have a way of keeping the viewer on his toes. It's all nonsense of course, like the sign in a warehouse stating 'Attention - All employees must wash hands before using restroom'. You really have to seek that one out, aware that the film makers didn't always draw direct attention to them but did some of their work with a subtlety to be admired.And then there are the gags that come at you like a hammer blow, like Lieutenant Drebin's (Leslie Neilsen) ill fated attempt to infiltrate Vincent Ludwig's (Ricardo Montalban) office, filled with fine art and exotic collections. Then at one point out of nowhere, we get treated to Herman Hermit's hit 'Somethin' Tells Me I'm Into Somethin' Good'. The kicker of course when it comes to hindsight, is the appearance of O.J. Simpson. You would think that with this exposure to police detective tactics, he might have put them to good use one day in seeking out the real killer.

Eric Stevenson For a lot of people, this film happened to be the last great parody movie ever made. It seems like right after this movie, the parody genre just got worse and worse. We finally hit rock bottom with "Disaster Movie" ranked as the worst film of all time by the IMDb. Were people just thinking this movie was a tough act to follow? There have been zero spoof movies since that would be considered truly great. If nothing else, we can at least look back at this once great style. I heard "Sausage Party" was technically a spoof, but it still wasn't on the same level as these old ones. Modern spoof movies just have the characters fart and poop all the time, but these ones actually made us laugh.It is kind of weird looking back and seeing OJ in a good movie role. Of course, he does get injured in this movie a lot. This film is great from the very first jokes. I think my favorite part would be when he says, "Bingo!" and finds a Bingo card. This is another movie you have to pay attention to in order to get all the laughs in. I just love how this film escalates in its zaniness. Even if you've seen a compilation of best parts like me, there's still more to love. The madness doesn't even end with the credits. There's this gag where they list every person by labeling them with their dialogue! It actually does make sense, in a really amusing way. The pop culture references are a lot more subtle than other films and it works much better that way.This is what comedy should be. The slapstick is wonderfully timed. Everything comes together so well in this. There's always jokes that build up to each other and best of all, it has a coherent story. They do work hard to make these jokes relevant as to what is going on, not just random interchangeable gags. Even better is that I actually really do care about the main characters in this. I wanted them to get out okay! For all the laughs, there was good emotion here too. I didn't even know this was based on a TV show. I have seen some clips of it and it seems great too! I think the directors eventually split over arguments which is why their films have declined, ending with the worst, "Scary Movie V". While there are still great comedies, we'll never be restored to this level of quality in spoofs right here. May this film and its spirit live on forever! ****
