srhope-34746 So far I've not been able to watch more than the first few scenes. Not owing to any gruesome horror, but because I feel I've seen this film many times before. I stopped at the scene in the Chinese theatre. When Liev Schreiber's character tells Watts about the theatrical plot, he is so obviously telling her what she feels about her mistaken marriage, it is the writer and director choosing to verbalise rather than let the characters show through their actions and emotions. Too clumsy and obvious to generate real feelings in me at least.
Smoreni Zmaj Story of a girl who marries young bacteriologist for wrong reasons, about their journey to epicenter of cholera in some province in China and even harder journey towards mutual understanding and love. Quite a moving story and yet I'm not moved at all. Either I became cold-hearted over night or this essentially strong story isn't told in a strong enough way. I never heard of this director before, but cast is really great. In leading roles we have Naomi Watts and Edward Norton and they are the main reason I saw this movie in a first place. The most prominent side roles belong to Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan), Toby Jones (Dr. Jenkins in Wayward Pines, Dobby in Harry Potter) i Diana Rigg (Olenna Tyrell in GOT). Those actors themselves make this movie worth watching, but don't expect too much. Nice drama for one watching and nothing more than that.6/10The last scene is so cliche it made me wanna throw up.
someonesmart21 It was a wonderful experience for me for watching this movie, I am a big fan of Edward Norton I've seen him in "Fight Club" which to me is his greatest movie of all time and I truly loved him in "American History X" but this role of Dr. Walter Fane is quite different from the two, he played a very humble down to earth man who goes to a Chinese village with his unfaithful wife to treat patients from cholera epidemic which is spreading like wildfire, Naomi Watts played the role of Kitty his unfaithful wife who slowly realizes that how wrong was she to cheat on him. Both the actors chemistry was superb and the ending almost made me cry.The cinematography of this movie was fantastic, I loved how things are going slowly and not in a rush. The soundtrack was also great. This movie also tells that some mistakes are unforgivable and it takes a lot to find redemption.
Red_Identity One of the most consistently great and super watchable screen actresses of the moment is Naomi Watts, never having seen her in a bad film (yes, I've purposely avoided watching Diana). this film is rather elegant all around, and thankfully, it actually doesn't feel as stuffy as so many period pieces do. It is, however, sort of lacking in a really strong and interesting thematic conflict and characters. Norton does great work along with Watts, but it's all a bit, I don't know, superfluous. That's not necessarily a horrible criticism, but it does prevent it from true greatness. I enjoyed it though, and while I don't think it's a great film, it's an easily watchable and accessible one, sure to be loved by those who do love these sort of things.
