Talking to a family friend over the weekend about the upcoming Oscars,I got told about a film which featured Oscar nom (now winner) Eddie Redmayne teaming up with Kristen Stewart,which led to me getting hold of a yellow handkerchief.The plot:Released from jail after serving 6 years, Brett Hanson heads to a local shop to get a drink.As he drinks,Hanson hears teenagers Martine & Gordy chatting.Running into them later on,Hanson if offered a lift to the next town.Originally planning to travel to the town as a loner,Hanson soon finds Martine & Gordy's journey to be something that inspires Hanson to correct his past mistakes.View on the film:Keeping Hanson,Gordy & Martina constantly moving,director Udayan Prasad and cinematographer Chris Menges dust the title in an intimate Mumblecore atmosphere,with Prasad and Menges subtly using yellow to show everyone on a desert road,whilst also cleverly making blue be Hanson's colour to the his freedom at the deep blue sea. Transferring Yôji Yamada's 1977 The Yellow Handkerchief's to the US south in their adaptation of Pete Hamill's novel,the screenplay by Erin Dignam gives the title dollops of southern sass,thanks to Dignam giving Gordy,Martine and Hanson a real warmth,which shines as they reveal the scars of their past.Revealing Hanson's past with a skillful use of flashback,Dignam refreshingly makes no apologies for Hanson's past mistakes,but instead shows him trying to make sense and learn from them.Putting on a pretty good fake US accent, Eddie Redmayne gives a very good, sincere performance as Gordy,with Redmayne showing Gordy's nervousness to burn away,as sparks begin to fly between Redmayne's Gordy & a delightful Kristen Stewart's Martine.Spending a few days in jail in order to get a feel for the role,William Hurt gives a brilliant performance as Hanson,thanks to Hurt showing a real weight on Hanson's shoulders as he tries to make sense of his dark past,whilst also showing a growing sign of optimism,as Gordy,Martine & Hanson chase the yellow handkerchief.

"The Yellow Handkerchief" (2008) is a road movie about three strangers who travel across Louisiana. The group consists of a 15 year-old girl (Kristen Stewart), a geeky teen who wants to be her boyfriend (Eddie Redmayne) and a mysterious older man (William Hurt) whom the other two learn more and more about. A fourth character is the woman the Hurt character loves (Maria Bello).This is a small indie film with quality actors and a story about love and redemption that smacks of real life and leaves you with a good feeling. It's nothing that'll blow you away but, at the same time, it shows how ordinary people and their stories are more interesting than the most overblown effects-laden extravaganzas.The film runs 102 minutes and was shot in Louisiana.GRADE: B

This is a movie worth spending your time watching it. If you're a fan of Kristen like I am, then you must see it cause she did pretty well. KS is famous for Twilight movies, but she is far more talented than just acting a vampire's girlfriend. She showed her aptitude in movies like The Runaways, Speak, Adventureland, and this one. I think she will win a Oscar one day.The story is simple, touching; scenes are beautiful. You'd better watch it in a sunny afternoon. It's just like having a cup of tea or coffee with your old friends, talking, laughing, thinking. Nice movie.

If you are planning on seeing this, DO! It is a bit slow but you will come to love the characters and their flaws. It is not average road-trip to self discovery it is more. The lead characters have a tense and fearful journey ahead. As they open themselves up to each other we see the story take a journey that reminds me of To Kill A Mockingbird as we see the film from two innocent teenagers points of view. The writing is sarcastic and not at all Hollywood flashy it is down to earth and heart warming. A truly uplifting story to all who to let your teenager nature over-run them for 2 hours. You just might believe there is a happy ending in life for everyone. You should watch this movie, it is not one to miss!!
