rijulkochar24 Under The Same Moon is a thoughtful and heartwarming story which describes the struggles of a young boy, Carlito , in his quest to cross the Mexican American border and find his mother. The movie highlights the struggles of crossing the border and the turmoil that illegal immigrants face while living in the United States. In some of the scenes the director explores how hard it is for an illegal immigrant to hold a steady job and then find a new job. Additionally, there are examples of how some illegal immigrants go through the process of becoming legal residents through marriage. The movie was effective in depicting the plight of illegal immigrants while simultaneously highlighting the concerns over treatment in regards to illegal immigrants. The border patrol and authorities were highly abusive in the movie towards illegal immigrants which is not necessarily an appropriate response for treating illegals. However presenting such a view of illegal immigrants is important for viewers to truly understand the dangers that illegal immigrants face. Luckily for viewers the movie had a positive outcome where Carlito was reunited with his mother. While such a ending is important for hope, the movie fails to acknowledge all the scenarios where such a positive outcome does not work out. In many cases those who successfully cross the border are caught and then deported. Overall, the movie was at 7.0 out of 10. The story was inspirational and enlightening however was not completely informative in regards to illegal immigration.
jordana1992 "Under the Same Moon" is a story about overcoming obstacles, striving for a better life, and the power of love. It revolves around Rosario, a Mexican immigrant living in the United States so that she can provide a better life for both her son and her self. We see aspects of both Rosario's life living in the United States and her son's, Carlitos', life living in Mexico. Although the kinds of hardships each character faces differ, they both must lead difficult lives in their respective countries. After Carlitos' grandmother dies, leaving him alone, Carlitos decides that he must find his mother. Without much of a plan, Carlitos embarks on a journey across the border and throughout the United States, meeting a string of characters, both good and bad, along the way. The story is heart-wrenching and real, giving insight into an immigrant's every day life. The movie also depicts the dangers of crossing the Mexican border. Although there are many aspects to the movie that are very realistic, the story of Carlitos' success is somewhat unbelievable. However, the movie is entertaining and evokes sympathy from the viewers. It is a good movie overall and I very much enjoyed getting to know the different kinds of people Carlitos meets during his journey, each one giving more insight into an immigrant's life living in the United States.
andd20 Under the Same Moon was an interesting movie that told a different side of illegal immigration that we usually don't hear about. I enjoyed hearing the story of Carlitos and how he journeyed from Mexico to Los Angeles in order to reunite with his mother. His story was heartwarming and it was nice to see a moving tale like his as opposed to the cold hard statistics that we are normally told. I liked Enrique's character and enjoyed watching him assume the role of Carlitos guardian, which was a big step for him as he was so used to being a lone wolf. I am glad that Rosario was reunited with her son in the end, however I was quite skeptical that a nine-year-old boy could complete such a journey. On many instances Carlitos was saved by extreme luck such as when he was seconds away from being sold into slavery, barely escaped the INS, and miraculously found the spot that his mother calls him from. I also did not care for the inclusion of his father in the story. When Oscar was introduced in the beginning of the movie by Carlitos' aunt and uncle it seemed like that would become a major part of the movie later on, but that part of the story never really developed. The meeting between Carlitos and his father seemed kind of forced and the audience is never really told why Oscar left his son once again. Otherwise Under the Same Moon was an enjoyable movie to watch that I recommend to others.
arthur18 Under the Same Moon is a heart-warming, yet heart-wrenching tale of separation between mother and son. Rosario the mother, is in Los Angeles working as an illegal immigrant to make money to get her legal papers. Carlitos, her son has been stuck in Mexico for 4 years while his mother has been working to gain a better life for them. The conflict in the movie is nine year old Carlitos crossing the border and reaching his mother in America. Carlitos goes through numerous adventures where he almost gets abducted, caught, and robbed. In the midst he meets a man named Enrique that at first is harsh towards him but towards the end of the movie ends up saving him. The hardships of illegal immigrants is directly displayed in the movie through a very glamorous, Hollywood style. It uses a theme of abandonment as a background for the whole story to unfold and shows how strong bonds are between mother and son. The director tries to open our eyes to the fact that these illegal immigrants do not cross over to be rebellious, but because their life at home is so dismal it is their only way out. Otherwise, they would not be doing what they hate to do; in this case being away from your son for years. I think it was an all around good movie that captivated the audience with the great acting and constant surprise. I give it an 8/10.
