nelsonkane The people who didn't like this movie must have thought they were going to watch a Walt Disney movie! The scriptwriting is so absurdist that it would make John Cleese proud. All three of the main characters play straight men at times, because the jokes cover almost any topic you can think of. If you ever saw Peter Sellers in a comedy, imagine a film with three of him in it, together. Yes, some of the jokes are gross, but I just ignored those. Dave Franco plays a guy who is either drunk/brain damaged/lobotomized, or....I dunno. You have to see this movie to believe it. If you remember Tom Green, well, he would have liked this, I'm sure. LOL. Too funny. My wife said this is the funniest movie she has ever seen!
jtindahouse Vince Vaughn is such a misunderstood commodity. Film makers seem to think of him as a Seth Rogen type actor, where you can just give him any old script and he will improvise enough to make it work. Rogen can do that, Vaughn can not. When Vaughn is at his best is in films like 'Old School' and 'Wedding Crashers' where he has both a very strong script and also very strong comedic actors around him for him to play off. That's what he does best, play off other actors with perfect biting sarcasm. 'Unfinished Business' does and not have a strong script, and even more so it certainly does not have a strong cast. This was a complete misfire.I think I briefly chuckled once the entire film. There was simply nothing funny going on here. What's more it was often quite depressing. There are a lot of story arcs that are an absolute downer and have no place being in a comedy film. Dave Franco was also absolutely dreadful. He played one of the worst character I can ever remember seeing in a film. The brain dead character can be funny ('Dumb and Dumber' perfected it) , but here it was just another depressing element to the film. I felt genuinely sorry for the character, he was going to have a very hard life. That's not something that ever crossed my mind in 'Dumb and Dumber'. Tom Wilkinson was also an absolute waste of space. He offered nothing in the comedy department, and nothing in any other compartment for that matter. The script gave these guys nothing, but they also didn't do themselves any favours. This is a horrible movie from start to finish. I think it was trying to be a raunchy, fun, party film while also having a heart. Unfortunately, even the raunchy scenes are dull and lacking in creativity. There really isn't any thing to like here. Even if you're a huge Vaughn fan, give this one a miss. It will only taint him for you.
follis12 In my work and travels, I've experienced some variation of all of the goofball characters and difficult situations portrayed in Unfinished Business - it speaks to the business life well. For this reason, I'm giving it a higher score than I might have otherwise. Still, it has a 5.5 right now, and that is not accurate. This is actually a very entertaining movie with a good mix of comedy and mild drama.Vince Vaughn character reminded me of myself. Trying balance work, family, and getting emotionally connected with individuals from both sides. The interesting part is the flaws that are so obvious in the people he supports, yet he believes in them and refuses to give up. I like that kind of message.I found it funny, touching, and maybe just a little inspirational. Give it a chance - you can do a lot worse out there.
kosmasp Let's get this out of the way from the start: This is not Swingers. You can't copy a formula like that, though Vince Vaughn does his usual shtick once again. And here lies the ingredient that will either lead to you enjoying this or absolutely dreading the experience of watching this movie. If you like him and the characters (quick talking, full of quips) he's portraying, you can be assured that you will at least have some fun with this. With two sidekicks who do a good job completing him (if that's what you want to call that). Especially Franco plays that innocent and uneducated simple minded guy as good as is possible. He seems very comfortable slipping into that role.A lot of sexual jokes and a bit of nudity along the way, if you're not offended by that ... if you are, try the wheelbarrow ... ;o)
