ethanbyrd This is the second collaboration between Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg after Minority Report. I think most of you would be aware of the source- HG Well's famous book and this is a worthy addition to the many adaptations the famed book has had. Featuring typical Spielberg traits War of the World is a big budget adaptation with enough scenes to whet your alien appetite. If there is one thing I wish they'd have done is they'd tone Dakota Fanning down a few notches. The pacing is excellent as are the special effects. This is a great science fiction film by a master filmmaker. A must watch.
muons This is not a sci-fi thriller. This is not even a bad story. This is a muddled mashup of disjointed series of events involving mindless action, mayhem, explosions, running with no apparent purpose. In other words, a typical Spielberg horse-manure. It is true that if an alien force struck the earth, confusion, chaos and disorder would prevail but that that doesn't mean that its story must be scattered all over the place. The chaotic narrative leaves the impression that the aliens rather hit the movie set. The movie has no plot, no acting, no dialogue, no character development and offers nothing to engage the viewer. When you don't feel connected to the main characters you also become indifferent to their ordeal and struggle for survival. The suspense and tension that a thriller is supposed to build hangs in the vacuum. The movie starts with no promises and delivers nothing in the end, which makes it consistent at least in one thing. After seeing his prominent movies, this one erased all the doubts in my mind that Spielberg can't tell a coherent story.

adonis98-743-186503 As Earth is invaded by alien tripod fighting machines, one family fights for survival. War of the Worlds is definitely not as good as some other movies of Steven Spielberg but it works thanks to a terrific perfomance by Tom Cruise but also outstanding special effects and lots of suspense that builts quite well. The kids were a bit annoying i'll admit that but they weren't also completely awful especially Dakota Fanning. It's different from it's source material from what i know but it's still pretty good plus Tim Robbins also did a very good job as well. (8/10)
