srdjan_veljkovic It's not a real movie, more of a bunch of related sketches. But they tie them in just enough to not make this be an overly long episode of "Saturday Night Live".Most segments are OK. A few are dull/uninteresting, and a few are _great_. The best is the first segment with Dennis Quaid. He's great, but others are following along quite nicely. It alone is worth watching the whole movie for. There's nothing much new or profound to learn her, it basically just shows that each pregnancy can go in any of the possible ways without any particular reason. That part is interesting only to the young women in their first pregnancy. But, that's just the framing. The jokes are not really geared that way, but, are general momma-papa-baby jokes.Though I do find the "Dude pack" to be a little weird and obnoxious at times, they do come up with most of the good jokes outside the Dennis Quaid segment.Cameron Diaz is superbly cast and looks the part, but, doesn't perform it well. Anna Kendrick ditto. The rest of the gals are OK, but none are great. Guys have less light on them (hey, it's a pregnancy movie, so...), but Dennis Quaid is great, Chris Rock got his part good (he misses way to often, but didn't this time) and the rest are OK, with an interesting cameo by Joe Manganiello (most of all, the pull-up scene). What's interesting is that you don't see a lot of missed opportunities. About the only serious missed opportunity is near the end in the hospital, though the movie tries to be a little serious at that time, so it kind of makes sense to not overdo the comedy at that time. So, just to let you know what to _expect_: nothing profound, but quite a few good jokes and one great segment. Much, much, more than most modern comedies.
Lola A The movie tries to capture the different experiences that couples go through as they are expecting a child. However, I found that none of the experiences was deep enough, it was only represented in a shallow manner. Especially the couple that looses the child. There is a lot more emotion with that then the movie shows. I just felt that because the movie tried to show so many couples non of them was deep enough that the audience could relate or sympathise or even feel with them. The real-life link: I am not sure how a pregnancy is experienced so I might not be able to say if the experience was captured appropriately. But I assume that physical pain (Elizabeth Banks) and fear (Jennifer Lopez) are part of it and I think these two cases showed it pretty well. Even the woman that seems that has a magical pregnancy (Brooklyn Decker) could be found in real life. These three cases were armful. What was not so armful and seemed as totally unnecessary was Cameron Diaz scenario. I did not get what kind of pregnancy she was supposed to represent. While Anna Kendrick's role also showed a different kind of experience I think it was just not rightfully shown. Character analysis: Jules. She came across as the controlling, vain celebrity that had to always get with her way and did not care about the opinion of her partner at all. Evan instead of standing up for himself goes to her and does exactly what she says and even asks to marry him. I just think this is realistic. While of course there are men that would do the same, the long term prospects of that relationship would not be so good. And who knows if there was a second part than maybe this couple would be separated. Marco and Rosie. Rosie pushes Marco away. Marco tries to make it happen despite it but he does not try hard enough. (hello those who say when a guy wants you he will make it happen). In the end they get together due to meeting in the hospital (now hello fate). While this is a movie and does not prove that it is exactly what happens in relationships, I find it quite realistic. The movie also does a great job in linking the characters with one another without them being all connected. Not too much but just enough. However, the movie is quite slow, the story line is predictable and is not so interesting.
Shopaholic35 I genuinely enjoyed What to Expect When You're Expecting and found it to be quite hilarious. The jokes were well timed and it seemed to be outrageously truthful in places and bullsh!t in others. They tried to depict multiple experiences with pregnancy from the very difficult to the "oh it was a breeze". Nobody's perfect yet everyone feels the need to have the perfect experience.I only wish they had explored each character in more detail. They all seemed very shallow below the surface as there were too many individual story lines. You didn't get to see the whole journey for anyone so it left me wanting more.By far the best part of the whole movie was seeing the dad's group hang out. Why does this not happen more often in real life. It's not only a brilliant support system but I'm sure it would be hilarious. Chris Rock stole the scenes for me. The man knows how to be funny.I will definitely give this one a second viewing and highly recommend it to anyone looking for an inappropriate laugh.
SnoopyStyle Five couples are about to have babies. The expecting parents are; fitness guru Jules (Cameron Diaz) and her TV dance show partner Evan (Matthew Morrison), baby book author/baby store owner Wendy (Elizabeth Banks) and Gary (Ben Falcone), Gary's competitive dad (Dennis Quaid) and his trophy wife Skyler (Brooklyn Decker), photographer Holly (Jennifer Lopez) and uncertain husband Alex (Rodrigo Santoro) plan to adopt oversea, and rival food truck chefs Rosie (Anna Kendrick) and Marco (Chace Crawford) after an one night stand. Also there's a funny dad's group headed by Chris Rock. There are way too many characters and stories. This makes the movie very shallow and very scattered. It's a mile wide and an inch deep. The scatter shoot effect does land some very funny bits and some emotions. Chris Rock is funny every time he's on screen. Rebel Wilson is also funny with Elizabeth Banks. Gary and his dad relationship is uncomfortably funny. This is a movie where less would be more. The overloading of characters really diminishes the emotions of each story.
