muons Love, spell, a Cinderella like character... This is a light subject. We don't expect much from the movie but it could have been more entertaining if the acting of two lead characters were better. This is particularly true for the male lead actor whose cocky and arrogant behaviors render him so unlovable. Even when he was supposed to suffer from a heartache he couldn't shed his commanding and aloof attitude, which made Kirsten Bell look silly, shallow and vain. There was also no need for slapstick comedy acts scattered here and there, which only helped to devalue the movie. In a romantic comedy, one doesn't need to roll on the floors at every scene. Indeed, there was sufficient funny moments including the clever ending. The background setting was perfect with the eternal city; the cast included heavy weights like Angelica Huston and D. De Vito; in short, all the necessary ingredients were there but the end product turned out to be a flop.
FilmBuff1994 When in Rome is a brutal movie with a really stupid storyline and a good cast that sadly couldn't make up for this terrible script. We follow Kristen Bell in this movie, who I do like very much as an actress, but her character in this was just not likable at all,and that's the same for Josh Duhamel, but the most annoying characters were certainly the four men who fell in love with Bell, who were sadly played by some great comedy actors,Danny DeVito,Will Arnett and Jon Heder, but it couldn't make up for how irritating these characters were, everything that came out of their mouths was just not funny, and the reason why they fell in love with Bell is ridiculous.Unless you want to see a romantic comedy were you won't laugh or have any care for the characters whatsoever, definitely avoid When in Rome. A New Yorker is pursued by a band of infatuated suitors when she takes some coins from a fountain in Rome, but she has her eyes on someone else. Best Performance: Kristen Bell Worst Performance: Dax Shepard
lisafordeay Kristen Bell from Frozen stars as Beth in this clichéd romantic comedy released by Touchstone Pictures. She's an unlucky in love woman who's sister is about to get married in Rome. Here Beth meets a handsome man named Nicolas played by Josh Duhmel from Life As We Know It and she starts to like him. But when she sees him with another woman she gets drunk and goes into the love fountain where she picks up coins. But when she does do that strange things start to happen to her as the men that threw the coins and the chip into the love fountain are now CRAZY in love with her. But things get complicated when she meets Nick again and she has to wonder does he love her or is he under the spell too?Overall When In Rome isn't a bad flick. Is it good well sorta but not really. The acting was pretty much OK,Danny De Vito was funny as he was one of the men who was under the love spell and dropped a coin into the fountain, and Kristen Bell's real life husband Dax Shepard was in it too as a model guy.Bottom line if you love romantic comedies like me check it out. 5/10
anchor-9 Honestly this is what Rom Coms are about. Romance comedy and a thread that connects the story. It met all those expectations and more. Good A list actors hitting main and cameo parts. Romance=Rome=NYC. Comedy= the entire cast. Sit back and enjoy. Enjoy the magic and the premise that there is free will when it comes to love. Kristen Bell is as entertaining as ever. Josh Duhamal does a good job as a leading man. Dax Shephard a great character actor as always. Maybe a bit too much spark with Kristen Bell. Anjelica Huston and Danny DeVito round out the cast. Why rate it less than a B+?? Can't see why some people are rating this low on the Rom Com scale.
