Ben Singer is a failed children's folk singer, a career proofreader, a less-than-extraordinary weekend dad, and perhaps the most negative man alive. Floundering in all aspects of his life, Ben's only comfort comes from regular chess games and friendly debates on game theory with his Senegalese roommate Ibou. When Ibou is suddenly struck ill, Ben's pessimistic worldview seems unequivocally confirmed. It takes an extended visit from Ibou's sister Khadi for Ben to realize that cynicism may be all a matter of perspective.

j-lacerra In Wonderful World, Matthew Broderick is the negative middle-aged divorcée, failing as an employee, a father, and a human being. The story is how, through tragedy, he is redeemed, and redeems himself. Broderick's skill is the understated handling of this character - he makes sympathetic what could have been irritating. Broderick is a master of the everyman and his performance is calm, nuanced, and at the same time riveting. We really want him to do better - we like him.Enter Sanaa Lathan as the sister of his ailing roommate. She injects life, love, and wonder into Broderick's lamentable existence. She invigorates his humanity. The tale of this metamorphosis is the crux of the movie and it is done with intelligence, some humor, and some tragedy.Very well done with great performances by all involved, Wonderful World is a heart-warming and enjoyable uplifting story. See it!
ramito-1 I am only writing a review because I cannot let stand the positive notices here. Someone else will come along and be floored that any 2 people could find this cliché fest anything but annoying. Unbelievable, dumb, trite, a hack. Pu-leeze, my wife & I sat through this because we could not believe how bad it was - but it just kept getting worse, right to the end! On the plus side the little girl who played the daughter was good. But nothing makes up for the pain of seeing Michael K. Williams - who was GREAT as Omar Little in The Wire - in this dreck- fest.OK, don't believe me - rent this film, watch it - but don't say you weren't warned!
Ankur Upadhyay Simple, Sweet and comforting.Don't keep any expectations from the movie before you start watching it, then I promise you will actually enjoy it. The movie moves at its own pace, you don't have to remember what happened in the last scene but still you won't fall asleep waiting for something to happen in the next scene. The movie revolves around its main character 'Ben Singer' played by Matthew Broderick, and tries to portray the importance of our 'own thinking' towards life. The cast has done a beautiful job, especially Matthew. But the thing I liked most about the movie was its simple approach, which perfectly fits in with the story and the pace of the movie. All credit to the movie crew on that, if I was rating only that then it would have been a perfect 10. Still 'Wonderful world' successfully puts forward the idea that it is really a wonderful world out there, if we try to see it that way.I won't say that you should definitely watch this movie, but if you do watch it then believe me you won't regret it. And for this beautiful effort I rate the movie a modest 8/10 (above average).
dancameraman This is a smart, satisfying film, and a triumph for Broderick. We haven't seen such a great anti-establishment hero since The Big Lebowski. All the characters are brilliantly written by Goldin, and, likewise, brilliantly portrayed by the actors. Matthew Broderick's performance as Ben Singer has an assured and measured nuance -- a really fine role. Michael Williams (Ibu) shows his impressive range with a wonderful character, so distinct from his iconic Omar on The Wire. Sanaa Lathan's Khadi is a strong memorable sensual beauty. Twelve year old Jodelle Ferland as Sandra, Ben's daughter, is a revelation and certainly a comer.Wonderful World will make you laugh and it will make you cry. You want to go see this flick.
