Tweetienator The concept of a afterlife or place where people who committed suicide live sounded cool and interesting to me and I hoped for a little gem. Sadly, the story develops really slowly and most of the dialogues are imo boring and also the characters are not not captivating. I always had the feel that everything happening was kinda choreographed to look or sound "cool" but it just didn't work this way to me. Too cool, too pretentious artsy, a shallow in disguise, my opinion. Some praise Wristcutters and I won't condemn it. The movie just didn't ring the "right bell" for me. Okayish. But somehow a good but wasted idea.
ormich It's just an overall terrible movie. The dialogue is painfully weak and lackluster and there are way too many awkward pauses and silences. The characters are not particularly captivating or engaging, minus maybe Mikal. The plot is not interesting or properly developed and starts to drag halfway through. I cringed during most of the second half of the movie, to the point where I wasn't even curious about the ending, which, of course, turned out to be a disappointment as well. Sloppy, corny and lacking any momentum.I'm very puzzled as to why it has a 7.4 and mostly positive reviews. I usually find myself agreeing -at least to an extent- with the ratings and the general consensus here, but this one... I really don't get it. The movie is a complete waste of an extremely exciting and intriguing premise.
Meyvun The film begins with our hero; a good looking, 20-something guy, named Zia, waking up in his flat finding it trashed and so he decides to clean it. And thus, the credits start to roll. In the subsequent 3 minutes of screen time, Zia has cleaned up his apartment quite satisfactorily and then, he retires to the bathroom committing suicide. The moment Zia cut his wrist, I knew this is going to be one of those out-of-the-box indie films that never gets old or famous. The movie is basically about 3 people on a road journey through the wastelands of somewhere-out-there. Add a defunct, mysterious car to that and some philosophical questions about life, death and love and bam...you have "Wristcutters: A Love Story".Needless to say the best part of this beautiful, inspiring movie is Eugene (Shea Whigham). This actor is a genius. A near to perfect representation of a ungodly Russian man who only loves beer and his mother. Then we have another brilliantly portrayed love-plot between Zia (Patrick Fugit) and Mikal (Shannyn Sossamon). Moreover the supporting characters and the way they switched-it-off are a treat to watch. Not to forget the unlikely, unreal quests of Zia and Mikal. The film is based on a subject that could've lead to numerous moral, religious and scientific questions but the way Director-Writer Goran Dukić has picturised is undoubtedly a commendable effort. Wish to see more feature films from this intellectual.
attilabarcellos Like most of the movies I've been watching lately, I searched here at IMDb before watching this, and this one has a 7,3 average score and the plot caught me, so it was enough for me.The story is about people who commit suicide and the place where they go, what seems to me a lot like the purgatory from catholic church.Even though the special effects are very bad, the movie itself is not bad, because this is not some mindless action movie, so that's OK if special effects suck. What concerned me was that, for a "different" movie, with a "out of the box" story, it just ended like all the other movies, with the protagonist staying with the beautiful girl.I'm so tired of that kind of brainwashing about a romantic couple, doesn't matter if we are talking about a war on Mars or a suburban family trying to pay the bills, it's like a recipe people follow just to reach some final goal, that is the approval of the audiences.About the acting, it's average, with some highs and downs. The Russian guy was very nice, but the protagonist was just around average.Nevertheless, it's a funny movie with some good ideas that show creativity and makes us think.Concluding, for a overall average movie, 6 seems a just score.
