SnoopyStyle Preacher's daughter Ann Burden (Margot Robbie) survives a nuclear apocalypse alone with her dog. Her family had left to search for other survivors. She scavenges supplies from the nearby abandoned town. One day, she encounters John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor). He gets sick from contaminated water and she nurses him back to health. There is tension especially with her religious beliefs but they grow closer. Then, another stranger named Caleb (Chris Pine) appears out of nowhere.Robbie is the it girl right now although her role would be played more effective by a more mousy, quiet actor. She needs to be a plain tomboy and possibly rougher. She doesn't seem to be doing any specific accent which leaves the location unknown. The stripped down plot is effective. It's a slow start and needs a better way to pull in the audience. It should follow Loomis at the start as he escapes the devastation. That would be compelling although it may be beyond the no-budget production. Once the triangle is formed at midway, the movie picks up a little steam. It's an apocalyptic movie not for the usual fans.
Sandy0095 In short, Z for Zachariah is about a young girl (Margot Robbie) who finds herself completely secluded after an unknown disaster wipes out her village. She comes across a very sick man named John Loomis (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and debates bringing him into her safe haven. She does so and unforeseen complications arise.I can't pretend this movie is anything like the book. Multiple changes have been made, including the characterization of Loomis. In the book, Loomis is a mystery to Ann. She questions her decision to save him and ultimately pays for it. Loomis loses his mind, which is never brought to fruition here. A large part of that might be due to the lovable Chiwetel Ejiofor, who plays Loomis as a very sympathetic man. In this version, Loomis is portrayed as a wanderer who innocently stumbles upon Ann's sanctuary. They bond and even make plans for the future, until a third wanderer arrives.Caleb (Chris Pine) is a completely new addition. Don't go looking for him in the book, you won't find him. He's brought on as an additional catalyst to cause friction amongst the group. Caleb is portrayed as a friendly, Southern miner who was briefly stuck underground. He immediately bonds with Ann, which causes issues. Loomis starts to belittle Ann for her friendship with Caleb, and grows increasingly resentful of their attraction for one another. This is the only time in the movie where Loomis' true characterization is realized. Culminating with an ending that leaves the audience questioning his morality. In all honesty, I enjoyed the film. Despite numerous changes, the movie is beautifully filmed, well acted and an interesting twist on the source material. It leaves the audience guessing everyone's motives and true intentions. If I had to loosely sum up the ending, I would say it felt like an origin story. With Loomis not quite becoming the villain we see in the book, but perhaps on the road to tyranny. With the farm now restored and Loomis in control of it's operation, we see Ann at a serious crossroads. In many ways, she's left in the same predicament as the novel.
Desertman84 Beauteous Margot Robbie stars in an apocalyptic tale in Z For Zachariah.Together with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Chris Pine,it tells a story of a young woman who finds herself to be the last woman surviving on earth. This film directed by Craig Zobel is based on the book of the same title by Robert C. O'Brien. After the nuclear war have occurred,a young woman Ann Burden finds herself on her own and has had thoughts about being the last person remaining on earth. But later, she is relieved to discover another living person in John Loomis, who happens to be a scientist that has been extremely affected by radiation exposure. He is also in search for others just like her. They become close friends and started doing things together. They almost started to have sex but Loomis rejects the idea to avoid problems later. After they discover some their foods being stolen, they get to realize that there exist another survivor in Caleb. All three develop into a close relationship with Caleb and Ann later having sex which Loomis rejects. Then, tensions arises which brings problems to their bond. This was definitely an ambitious project of telling a post apocalyptic tale. The idea could be really interesting especially with what happened to the planet during the end of the world.Too bad that the story become a little bit simplistic that mainly focuses on the characters of the allegedly three remaining people on earth who got to know each other and awkwardly got involved in a love triangle. Also, the story development is somewhat too slow and boring.Other things could be further explored but too bad is the movie just tells the story of three remaining people in the world and nothing more.
M I want to appreciate the work and effort it took for the cast and crew to complete this film but wow.. sometimes as the creator of a piece of art you have to have the ability to admit when your creation flat out sucks. This movie was painful to watch. The only emotion it evokes is frustration and a sort of self anger for having pushed through to the end. Just a bad. movie. There's really not much else to say about it. If you're lucky enough to have read this review prior to watching this film... you're welcome, I just gave you back precious time. And what's with the minimum length for a review here IMDb? I've said everything I needed to convey about how I felt about this film. I should not be forced to have to write a lengthier review. I hope this goes through this time.Yours truly, Disappointed.
