Reviews

artwhore First off, I just have to say, I was looking for incite into the second season, and realized there really wasn't much, and then happened upon the review section. 99% of all of the bad reviews of this show are from people with Zero reviews for anything other than this show. 99% of them signed up to specifically give this show a bad review. this my friends is the definition of Russian Bots.anyways, on with the show. This very Y/A geared show out of Brazil is really well written. I would advise cutting off the English Dub, it's pretty badly done and makes the show seem like a Sunday Afternoon B Movie or KungFu Drama. If you are a fan of other dystopian shows such as the Hunger Games, the Maze, etc, you will fall right in love with this tale of limited resources, the haves the have nots, a marvelous contest for the few that produces the chosen ones who are destined to move on to the promised land. They don't really explain the backstory, which is kind of nice, I really like being dropped into a scenario and use my imagination to fill in the blanks. Anyways, I highly recommend this show, I started watching it the same times as a few other new Netflix series and this is the only one that I actually finished. Very happy with season 2 so far, can't wait to finish it.
humphreys-828-116926 As far as the actual story its ok. The characters seem very morally neutral so its kind of hard to care about any of them or the world in which they live. The test itself is kind of interesting. As far as the plot holes... the first giant one is that they are culling the population. This is basic biology, They take everybody who passes their test and sterilize them They are culling the traits that the test selects. Maybe that is why everybody is so stupid and mean? The other giant one is just the absurdity of the situation. This one island is perfect but everywhere else is screwed? That makes no sense. Why don't they make more of these super magic robots that do all the work? Why does nobody work? Everybody just sits around and complains. Apparently nobody washes clothes or fixes houses, The magic robots are the only thing that does any work.Lets talk about the Marxist social commentary. Nobody produces anything. The only actual work is done by these magical robots that are controlled by the offshore, There are 2 classes: the rich who get handouts from the magic worker robots and the poor who do not. It seemed to me like we were supposed to cheer for the poor people to rise up., Why? All they are going to do is destroy the only good place left in the world and they are no better than the people who live there, I just hope everybody dies at the end because they are all such horrible people. There isn't a single person who is even trying to improve conditions for everybody, Every single person is selfish and stupidly selfish, The resistance talks about dying for the greater good, Yeah, exactly, the 'greater good' always involves a lot of people dying, Every time Marxists seize power they kill millions of their own citizens for the 'greater good' except it never is for the good of anybody,.
jayweigner The plot is not a bad idea but not well executed. It is a very incoherent story line. It is suppose to show the human condition and how utopian societies are doomed to fail, but it is not very believable because the characters do not respond in normal human patterns but rather in very contrived manners to force the story along. I watched both seasons hoping it would pull together but overall disappointing. Watching it dubbed makes it even worse so I recommend subtitles if you want to risk watching it. There was enough pull to keep me watching but ultimately left me frustrated, and not because it was some cleverly put together brain twisting plot, but because the writers just did not seem to be able to bring their ideas together in a cohesive manner.
berlog-16506 Didn't have much expectations and managed to watch all 2 seasons. Will start from the bad things/plot holes (many have been already mentioned) 0) Quality of production: Science and vision of the future (non-existent, though kudos for biological data storage), actors play (though I've enjoyed the looks), scenery is cheap, english dubs not very good, etc 1)Plot is really bad, some questions: a) what happened to the everything around that "inland" city? b) why did people stay in the city at all? They obviously have enough water and food to live, where does it come from? Why most of the people don't leave city and go e.g. farming? c) Process - what's the goal? One would think, especially after 2nd season, that the idea is to bring the best people to develop the "offshore" further. I'd imagine those would be some driven people with passion to creating things, helping others, working together on a common goal, etc. Looking at the Process - doesn't seem so. d) Process - why at age 20? Is it something special in Brazil (finishing high-school maybe)? As inland is missing basic education, it'd be a pure luck to get those people even to decent engineering level, let alone scientist making breakthroughs e) 'dumb violence' - on one side it's pretty peaceful movie, counting what's happening on the inland. Most of the weapons have disappeared (where?!). People have to steal some fertilizers delivered from offshore to build a bomb. (what happened to all the explosives in the world?!). Most of the people seem to leave poor but relatively safe life. And so on and so on. On the other side - a few episodes with blood everywhere. Probably authors tried to show the terror but it doesn't fit in general mood of the series d) Why "offshore" doesn't even try to develop inland? They have technology, medicine, etc. They can't go and build some manufacturing and production on the inland? Create schools, etc? No need to share resources of the island, but knowledge and technology - why not? Probably many more but those are the first that come to mind. Now to the "positive" things, as they seemed to me: 1) Interesting twist on religion (no offence to anybody). It seems most of the people believe in Process and their sole goal is either to pass it or give birth and bring up children that will pass it. That believe somehow blocks development in the inland. That's why so much revolves around destroying Process, as it being perceived as the main show stopped in developing inland (rightfully or not, but I liked the interesting point of view) 2) The ending - if I'm not mistaken, the final decision was again, not to develop inland, but build yet another "protected city" with offshore technologies. So, in the view of writers, the problem wasn't "the system" but "evil" people in charge. And re-creating the same system but with "good" people in charge - is the road to happiness. That's so realistic for many countries that TV series deserves 4 just for it.
