Reviews

Paul Papadopoulos This horror show was top quality (eat your heart out Stephen King) despite is cancellation by horrific ABC channel executives. I am quite unclear why the show was really cancelled whereas some like Supernatural, were great for the first few years and is still going but at a rather boring pace in its 12th year. I Can think of several others that went on ad nauseaum, e.g. Revenge, The Good Wife and worst of all Mad Men (worth a maximum two seasons as The Affair should have done). It seems that general audiences, other than the more focused fans of IMDb's site, seem to prefer the most dreary soap operas. Let's hope that the cancellation of the show was not, God forbid, due to the Million Moms and Million Dads organizations' protests, a kind of watered down John Birch Society. Their stated aim was to protect children. If they felt so strong about the mild adult content of 666 Park Avenue then why didn't they use the feature on remote controls of modern TV sets that allow certain programs to be locked when parents are otherwise engaged. Well from the overwhelmingly good comments it seems that IMDb enthusiastic amateur critics loved the production. This was due to several features: an excellent story line, first class cast miles better than the average Hollywood lot. When we learned of the powers that be decision to can the series and wind up on episode 13 most of us IMDb fans were as if struck by lightning. The production quality was AAA+. Thanks to the producers the series was we seamlessly wound up. One assumes that if he show had not been canned the forced final episode 13 would have been aired for the last of the orphaned 23 episodes per season through 2017. Some compensation the salvaged finale of 666 Park Avenue was very well handed and brought closure to the fans. For those who want to see the series again I thought that the DVD is out from Amazon. Wrong ABC has refused to allow Amazon to put it on sale (original novel excepted). Oddly enough the DVD cover of 666 Park Avenue is downloadable from Google images.
Jon Whittet-Pitney I admit, I didn't like the show after watching just the pilot...and admit to being put off by the cheesy wording (666) -- having found that number turning up too many times in my own personal life to feel quite too comfortable, or attracted to anything pandering to its mystique (though 2*3^2*37, as factorizations go, is rather pretty).Anyway, here comes synchronicity (woo woo...): I was going over the documentation of a hypnotherapy certification program I am considering for enrollment. Right thereafter I clicked through a few streaming video sites and found myself, seemingly by accident, looking at the still frame of the first episode (9), at what seemed to be Whoopi Goldberg's inimitable figure. As a Next Generation fan, how could I resist? No sooner had Whoopi's character spoken the words, "anteriograde dissociative amnesia" to a hypnotherapy client, than I was hooked. Now they're speaking my language, through the mouth of a guest with a guest star who would make almost any show a hit with me, and who plays the psychic savant with natural finesse.Since then I've watched all the episodes starting (again) from the beginning. While recognizing the potential for this show (and its themes) to go over like a lead balloon with mass audiences, I have to commend the producers for making the show startlingly "true to life". Of course that is just my opinion. Maybe I just live in a fantasy world or forgot to take my Thorazine or sumpthin. Anyway, on a less personal note, "666" is true to art, that is, at least in its tasteful allusions via thematic and/or episodic references to horror genre-defining classics, such as Rosemary's Baby, as well as to Hitchcock's _Birds_ and _Psycho_, to name a few.Audience recognition of some of the characters and themes from real life, does tend to make for a good supernatural thriller -- one in which characterizations, even casting choices, mirror one's own spooky life experiences in an all-too-literal (ie, synchronistic) fashion. What more could a person want in a scary series? The truth, as it is said, is (at least sometimes) stranger than fiction. But then again, this show indeed is highly weird, as prime time network fictions go. Having said that, however, were the series to reincarnate as a Showtime or HBO production, one would expect them to do much, much more with the characters and other serialized elements. As drama series go, one can only expect so much from ABC, and not a bit more. Witness one of their successes -- one which I enjoy, much as one enjoys a liqueur to fall asleep: Castle. Great actors, excellent writing...undercut by shallow serialized character development, and made saccharine by over-reliance on predictable, failsafe plot formulas. Formulas so sweet, so easily partaken, that neither delirium tremens nor diabetic coma could keep a fan from grasping the plot line. Such are the compromises that a "major network" drama series must make to stay afloat. For the truly insane, however, there are the true gems -- _Mad Men_, _Sons of Anarchy_, _Breaking Bad_, and others, fruits of the seamy, "cable network" underbelly.Too bad ABC canceled...but then again, certain, ahem, "people" might not appreciate having their personality types portrayed, shall we say, rather too literally on one of the (once upon a time) "big three"?
johnboyblues I've always had a thing for horror movies; not slasher films but good old scary films that surprise you and make you jump occasionally. Nothing like a good scare to wake you up and let you know that this is not a soap opera. You never know what is going to happen next in this series. It goes from current day mischief to gruesome acts in the past to people conjured up in the imagination of a newspaper journalist and have them come to life to create more havoc. The cast seems to work well together. They interact well together on film and that's the important thing. I was surprised to see Vanessa Williams in the cast but surprises are good. The creators have taken Terry O'Quinn from the jungles of Lost (John Locke) and dropped him in the concrete jungles of New York. And he is playing another mischievous, devilish character who you cannot quiet figure out. Not sure if he's Satan or just someone who possesses mystical powers but whoever or whatever he is, he has that charm that makes you want to like him even though he's somewhat sinister. Well, actually, he is downright sinister. Speaking of scary films...check out O'Quinn in an oldie but a goodie, The Stepfather. That's the film that made me an O'Quinn fan.Anyway, it's worth watching. Just have to wait and see if some dufus pulls the plug on this series. Let's hope not. Here we are 2 months after the previous review above and what happens... as I prophesied, the numbskulls at ABC have decided to cancel the show. Unless some miracle occurs and the show returns, you have seen the last of 666. Alas, perhaps my usefulness should be turned towards the occult as a seer (Nostradamus here I come).
Erhan Aslan I cannot say this TV show is the best one. However, according to me, half of the Hollywood TV shows are made in vain, this one is a lot more watchable than many others. Some critics showed up "oh, this one is just like Keanu's film! Let's do not watch it". OK, let's leave these perfectionists to watch nothing after "the big bang theory" or "how I met your mother"!I think this one must have got higher rates than 7.2 as currently; it could be 7.6 or 7.8. Therefore, by giving a rate of 10, I just now made a very very small adjustment.Terry O'Quinn's classical act from the TV show "Lost" is just like similar here. Again, he has a mystical role, and he keeps making us to ask the question "who are you man?".Rachael Taylor, having the leading role, really deserves to be in this role. But, I wish Helena Mattsson would play a good person not losing her current style and mood in the Show.
