Reviews

Kirpianuscus For a viewer from East Europe, like me, Amish comunity remains an obscure subject. not for poor informations but for its deep senses defining it. this serie was a good answer. few young people out of comunity. relations, desires, dreams, personal stories. crisis, traits of tradition and conflicts. and answers to challenges inspired by the HYolly Book. a conservative comunity and the grow up of few young members in the contact with ordinary life. far to be boring , it represents a wise perspective about needs and targets of the other. a sort of sociological documentary, using the rules of Tv show.
Andrew Clark I think this series is underrated on IMDb. It may be because I watched an entire season at once, which put the whole story together. Maybe it's not that enjoyable to watch single episodes without understanding the social dynamics between all the individuals. I liked watching this show because it was almost like an academic sociology experiment, almost text book material if thought about scientifically. It was incredibly interesting to watch how these individuals lives changed after leaving the Amish community to go to NYC. While most reality shows are pretty scripted (for example the Amish Mafia show... ugh), I'd say this felt the least scripted out of many reality shows. These individuals seem so genuine about their emotions, and how they communicate them. Myself, living in the land of flakes and nuts (California), it's kind of a relief to watch this show and see people not hiding much about who they are. Seeing the normal American life from their perspective of being Amish was enlightening to me in recognizing things we take for granted in the "English world".
