aelwynpborst The most boring piece of crap that has ever graced the television genre. It seems to only be liked by people that are childhood-biased. they CLEARLY haven't re-watched the show since they were seven!!! I wonder how in the heck this is considered a "90's classic"! It's LITERALLY the most unoriginal heap of garbage I have ever seen!
rocky599415 Doug from what i have read was one of the first Nicktoons on Nickoldeon. Doug was also a part of my childhood. Now i was born the later part of 91 so i have know memories of its original boardcast run until 94. I remember when it used to air on Nickoloden. I remember some episodes like Where doug thought he had found a dinosaur and turned out it was a Human. Or the one with him and Mr. Dink at the Boat docks. How bout the one where doug accidentally started the Schools science lab on fire by accident. Well either way the show was great Doug always used his imagination to when he got into problems. Heck i even still remember the Characters other than Doug Funny, like Skeeter The Beats,Patty Manase,Dougs Sister, Mr. And Mrs. Dink The Vice Principal, Dougs dog and thats all i can remember. I remember the show stopped airing regularly on Nickoldeon in Late 2000 Early 2001 because Spongebob and other Newer supposedly "Better" NickToons where coming out. The Show did have a second life on Disney but the Disney Doug sucked compared to the original. Well i started wondering what ever happened to it and in 2003 i found it on Nicktoons T.V. and man i remembered a lot of then. As the years went by thou i slowly started to forget about it and Nicktoons T.V. now plays mostly Bad Cartoons. Last year in 2008 however i was delighted to hear that for the first time it was coming out on DVD Season 1 and 2. I have still yet to get them but i shall get them soon. If you want to watch good, and real nicktoons watch this Show but if you want to stay with Spongebob(Which is played on Nick almost ever other hour) then forget It. Its really a shame that Nick took it off the air. Old Nick from the 1990s is still the best.
crazydude1989 Whoever hates such an innocent show like Doug is out of their mind. It was the very first Nicktoon to ever debut on Nickelodeon on August 11th, 1991. But it doesn't have any special recognition, like DVDs or airtime. All Nick cares about is releasing garbage shows every second. And they won't let Doug stay up on Youtube, despite the fact that it airs . . . NOWHERE and has NO DVDs??? How retarded is that? (I can't believe the videos that actually stay up there.) ANYWAY, I used to love Doug when I was a kid. The day it first aired, I was 2 years old, so I obviously don't remember. But as I got older, me and my older sister made it a habit of watching Doug every Sunday night, and on weekday nights at 7:00. The show is about a 12-year-old named Doug Funnie, who lives with his parents and older sister in Bluffington. He has several friends, like Skeeter--a blue Weirdo (an obvious reference to Gonzo, lol! Even has a similar nose.) He is also in love with Patti Mayonnaise and has a wacky next-door neighbor named Mr. Dink. Doug usually starts off the episode writing and narrating in his diary (it's a JOURNALLLLL!!!!!) and will usually narrate throughout the show. Doug also has a very Snoopy-esquire dog named Porkchop, and is usually bullied by Roger Klotz, but there are instances where Roger seems like Doug's friend. I love this show, and I can relate to Doug. He usually panics over little things, is a little geeky, and doesn't like to hurt other people's feelings. I felt really bad for Doug in the Christmas episode, when Porkchop was almost put to sleep over a big misunderstanding (he supposedly "attacked" Beebe.) He had gotten Porkchop for Christmas when he was little, and then imagined the thought of spending his Christmas looking at Porkchop's grave. But at least everything was all right at the end! Doug is the best Nicktoon ever and should've been released on DVD some time ago. 10/10.
B_a_S_t_A_r_D On Nickelodeon today, or rather its spin off channel "Nicktoons" (yes Nickelodeon has to set up an extra channel for all the decent shows that it doesn't show anymore) "Doug" is shown at 6am everyday. The rest of the day is dedicated to shows like "Fairly odd parents" or "Spongebob square pants", each given four or five slots in a row.I, like many others who long for the return of the golden age of Nicktoons, think that shows like "Doug", "Real Monsters" and "Ren and Stimpy" should be brought back to Nickelodeon to replace these over-repeated, poor modern day excuses for cartoons. The reason shows like "Fairly odd parents" and "All grown up" will not be spoken of in ten to fifteen years (like Doug is) is because they are far too obscure. They are not art forms like "Doug", which originated from a comic book called "Doug's new shoes". They are just in - store creations to try and fill up time slots.Another reason as that right now, the best cartoons around are the ones that are aimed at late teens/early adults such as "The Simpsons", "Family guy" and "South Park". I genuinely believe that Doug could quite easily be transformed into one of these shows. My reason is that the audience Doug once entertained, like myself, are all aged around 18 - 20 years old now. Most of the children that currently watch nickelodeon probably haven't even heard of Doug, so they wont feel left out if was resurrected as an adult cartoon. What made Doug the greatest children's cartoon now and then was his age. At the time, Doug was older than his target audience, and now he is younger. In the height of Dougs popularity, his adventures and exploits were a message and a lesson to children on how to cope with teenage life and high school. Now, Doug is something adults can look at and reminisce about their own high school days. Doug is almost an animated teen movie like "American Pie" or "Ferris Beuller's Day Off", without the language and sexual exploits. What made Doug the character so great was his cynicism. He was virtually a victim of bullying but he dealt with it in a perfect, relaxed way. Of course he was geeky and paranoid much of the time, but this was outweighed by his responses to Roger Klotz's pranks. Doug was the perfect middle man, who just wanted a quiet life and would have it if it weren't for his clumsiness. The slight dynamic of Doug is that he is in no way the series' most interesting character. In most other shows he would just be a supporting character. Could you imagine "The Simpsons" if Karl was the main character? Exactly. The stories were excellent too because they were so simple. No other show has ever dedicated an entire narrative to, say, getting a haircut or a cookery lesson. A show has never been as brilliantly simple as Doug. Finally, there is the excellent Billy West. Another reason I think Doug would make an excellent adult cartoon show is the fact that Billy West is also the voice of Fry in "Futurama." He should get more work than he does. Doug is West's greatest character (closely followed by Fry).Bring back Doug! Save it from early morning limbo!
