snurgburgler This show is a classic, especially for being a Nickelodeon show. Let's face it, Nick has some great shows (this is one), but Nick can also have some pretty bad ones. This outshines every. Single. One, and in all ways. It's funny and heartfelt. Even coming back to it after many years of having not watched it, it's still funny to me, while other shows I go back to and don't even crack a smile. This show has you laughing 90% of the time, and that's definitely a positive. It doesn't take itself too seriously. It's charming and has a blend of great characters. Even characters that are just side- characters and only appear in one episode are great. Drake is your classic high-school guy who's the most popular there. And Josh is your classic awkward high-schooler. You find them getting into many different situations that span from them working their way through a long line of a roller coaster to them being hunted down by America's Most Wanted Criminal. And that's what makes the show so special. For it's time, it was revolutionary among other Nick shows, and nothing can replicate it. iCarly came close. It had the same mix of characters and humor, but there's just something about these two that makes it more personal. You see their relationship develop over the time of the show. They start out by hating each other, but then, by the end, they're best friends. You also see their personalities develop. Drake becomes much less macho and more down-to-earth and heartfelt, and Jost becomes less awkward and weird. iCarly just didn't seem to replicate that. At the beginning of that show, the main 3 characters were all friends and it just kind of stayed that way, and they didn't really change. And that's also why Drake & Josh is a modern marvel. It's not afraid to make fun of itself, and tiny details that you think may not be important may then become super important in a hilariously funny way. This show is great, and I recommend anyone who hasn't watched it before to go watch it. Even though it's not on Nickelodeon's website anymore, you can find every episode on other websites for free or you can get it off of Amazon.
bkoganbing From The Brady Bunch to Step By Step blended families and the inherent situations that come from them have always been a good source of material for situation comedies. Nickelodeon network which seeks to rival Disney for teen and preteen audiences came up with this one which ran for three years which is the usual Disney formula.Jonathan Goldstein marries Nancy Sullivan and the show spins around the children each have before the marriage. Goldstein brings Josh Peck who in his teen years was a teen comedian and he's something of a class clown in Drake&Josh. Sullivan has two children, teen heartthrob Drake Bell and young Miranda Cosgrove.Considering how different they are stepbrothers Bell and Peck bonded very well together. The kind of stuff they got into goes all the way back to I Love Lucy. But a lot of the comedy also comes from Peck and Cosgrove. What an evil little girl she was and Peck told her just that on many occasions when he falls for yet another of her schemes. It worked so well that at the conclusion of Drake&Josh she got her own series on Nickelodeon. With Bell singing and playing and Peck's oafish clowning what more could you ask for in a teen comedy. This would have been right at home on the Disney Channel.
hnt_dnl I accidentally came across DRAKE AND JOSH during it's initial run. The first ep I actually saw was Smart Girl, the one where Drake tried to impress a super-smart girl. And from that ep, I was hooked! This was one of the early eps of the show, around the 10th or 11th, as Season 1 only had a handful of eps, probably due to not knowing if the show would make it another season. But last it did! For 4 seasons and this show had re-defined Nickelodeon. As I was watching the first-run episodes, I didn't even realize how GOOD this show really was! Stepbrothers Drake Parker (played by Drake Bell) and Josh Nichols (played by Josh Peck)are like a very young modern-day Laurel and Hardy, with Drake the straight (and dumb!) man and Josh the smart, big lovable oaf. The chemistry between Bell and Peck was infectious. These young men were real teenagers playing real (and funny) teens and that couldn't have been easy to do. Their interactions are still very enjoyable upon re-watch. Peck, in particular, stood out by giving his character affectations from his stand-up routine, but both excelled at physical comedy. I kind of think Bell is a bit under-appreciated because he was the straight man to Peck's boisterous personality, but Bell's subtle comedy is a big reason it all comes together. The two excelled at playing off of each other. Also, Bell is a guitarist and singer irl and they used this on the show as Drake was an aspiring musician with his own teen band. He actually sings the theme song.As great as Drake and Josh were, they might not even be my 2 favorite characters! Because there were 2 other scene-stealing girls on the show. First, there was the young, incredibly talented Miranda Cosgrove, who played the boys' younger sister Megan Parker. And Megan was pure evil! Megan delighted in torturing her older brothers and was wise beyond her years. Cosgrove imbibed Megan with real wit and personality, very rare for such a young girl, as Megan wasn't much older than a tot when the show started! Cosgrove has her own show now, the absurdly popular iCarly, but I think she was a more fun character as Megan on this show. The other great female was Mindy Crenshaw, played by talented Alison Scagliotti, who was both the thorn in Josh's side AND ended up his girlfriend! It's weird that Mindy was only in about 15% of the show's episodes, yet left such a lasting impression on the viewers! Jonathan Goldstein and Nancy Sullivan commendably and ably played Drake, Josh, and Megan's parents, but were not much more than bit players. Other awesome minor characters included Helen and Crazy Steve (who worked at the local movie theater where Josh worked and the boys hung out at), and the other comedy duo on the show, lovable nerds Eric and Craig. The wonderful Julia Duffy (from Newhart) was a standout as the boys' teacher Miss Hayfer in a handful of eps, too! The best episode to me was the Season 2 finale Honor Council, where Drake was accused of pulling a prank on Miss Hayfer and Josh defended Drake, while Mindy represented Miss Hayfer. It was a hoot start to finish! Other great eps are the aforementioned Smart Girl, Drew and Jerry, Helen's Surgery, The Peruvian Puff Pepper, Mindy's Back, Foam Finger, The Wedding, and The Storm.Wonderful teen comedy that helped re-define Nick!
drybones87 Today i shall review Drake and Josh, a show bashed by people who think shows like Fanboy and Chum Chum and iCarly nowadays are funny. This show is awesome! First let's talk about the characters. There's Drake, a teen singer who is making it big kind of. Josh who moved in with Drake who is spazzy and hilarious. Drake's mom (they never tell her name) Whos is just another character. Walter, who is Josh's dad seems to be spazzy like Josh. Megan, their sister who enjoys torturing them. Helen, Josh's boss who loves Drake. The nerds, Eric and Greg, who are funny because they're nerds. And my favorite, crazy Steve, who is so hilarious, every sentence he says is funny. So yes, this show has a lot of characters. Next we discuss most of the plots. They are always creative, but most revolve around them getting in trouble, or something Megan does. Let's relate that to iCarly, another Dan Schnieder show. All their problems are either because of the web cast, or are not related to it at all. Drake and Josh is a pretty much classic sitcom, but of course Dan Schnieder was stupid and replaced this for iCarly. Apparently he couldn't handle two shows. Then how come he could do Drake and Josh and Zoey 101, or iCarly and Victorious? They stopped making the series in 2006 UNEXPECTEDLY. But they did air an awesome Christmas movie in 2007, but that was where the series stopped. They don't even show reruns anymore! What they need to show iCarly and Spongebob 24/7?! Well Drake and Josh is a great show for all ages.
