infinitysteel Very complex story about a race of powerful mutant beings, represented by the Diclonius Queen,Lucy. Accursed by a corporation that is headed by a betrayer of humanity-Lucy escapes her captors. Pushed beyond the brink of emotional endurance in her childhood by human cruelty, Lucy uses her powers to commit horrible murders. Including the family of the one who will become her greatest friend. This series is somewhat altered and condensed from the original manga. In the end, Lucy is redeemed by unconditional love. I watched the last episode over and over. The series also contains a few really good comedy scenes of day to day life as her counterpart, Nyu.I'm trying to not totally spoil the series for those of you who have never watched it. So this is all of the detail I am going to go into. But I do want to make it clear that the gory parts are not just there frivolously.Lynn Okamoto is genius at story telling. I have never seen an anime I liked more!
Mayank Agarwal Disappointed, saw the series based on the hype and I had read the manga ages ago, although I didn't remember much from the read besides the start being slow and ending being amazing.Well the anime is just a waste of time. The production focuses on shock, nudity and gore as the core, without much emphasis given on plot or script. It's not able to play out the emotions which are the center point of the manga as far as I remember. In condensing the series the anime loses out on proper build up. Felt the anime tried to please too many genres which just don't fit in together.I am pretty sure harem and deepness don't go hand in hand. Only thing I liked about the series is the haunting melody "Lilium" and even that is an acquired taste.
thomavestergaard We start on a research facility, with a fem-fatal (Lucy) imprisoned. she manages to escape (by going on a murderous and gory rampage) just as she stood on the brink to freedom, she was shot in the head and fell into the ocean. Lusy was thereafter found on a beach by Koto and his cousin Yuka (Yuka is pursuing a incestuous relationship with Koto)I tried to like this show i really did, but it's so hard to forgive the characters when they do not act human,i cannot forgive the characters nonsensical decisions. The show is way too praised by it's fans, i might have had too high expectations, but seriously? Are the characters meant to be unrealistic and incomparable, if so they nailed it. i am pretty sure the only sensible decision that was made in show, was when Koto asked Mayu's mother for custody. I mean, when is the last time you found a naked girl on the beach, and just brought her into your house instead of bringing her to the police? (she did rub her boob against Koto back so i guess that's completely justified....right?) i know that's unfair, but still you have got to admit i does not make any sense. Even the flashback scenes, that are suppose to make me feel for the characters suffers from unrealistic characters. e.g. Lucy's flashback with the bullies, it's not realistic, no child is that mean spirited or cruel (to kill a puppy...no child would do that) or her flashback with Koto where she's "inlove" with him, how old is she 5, although i do not know i am pretty sure a 5 year old cannot be "inlove"To the shows credit it does manage to produce one truly dark and realistic moment (Mayu's flashback) i cringe just by the thought. The ending, was also decent it was touching, to see Kurama die with his daughter.Ultimately though, this does not make up for 11 episodes of nonsensical and unrealistic decisions and characters.P.S. did anybody else find it weird that Koto liked Nyuu, i mean she was presented like she was 3 years old. also Nyuu "horns" looked like ears just saying.
amelieproductions Elfen lied is a 13 episode anime featuring a sadistic pink haired girl who happens to be equipped with 4 invisible arms that shoot out of her back, enabling her to kill at a far range, and at a ridiculous speed. Throughout the series, we learn that this girl, Lucy, is part of a different race of human, known as the diclonious (die-chlo-knee-ous). Diclonious are incredibly sadistic, and aside from those special arms (they're called vectors), they also posses two horns on their heads which resemble that of a cat's ear immensely. Anyway, this one diclonious, Lucy, has been kept in a facility for most of her life, and then one day, all hell breaks loose, as she manages to escape ( this is basically where the story begins), and somehow she develops an alter ego, in which, when she is treated with kindness, is the cutest creature on the planet, but when treated like crap becomes a yandere serial killer. After she escapes, she is found on the beach by two college students/cousins who decide to take her in, but soon learn the government's after her. Throughout the series, we learn about the characters' backgrounds and histories...I have to say, this is quite the story. I've never seen anything like it before and it was nice to watch something a little different for once. When I first heard about Elfen Lied, I was very eager to watch it. I was disappointed. It's not that the show sucks, actually not in the least ( aside from the English voice acting), it's just that I thought everything would play out differently throughout the show, in my mind... It was interesting, but I've seen much better anime before. For example, Soul Eater, now that was amazing and wasn't even as violent! Anyways, perhaps if I had watched Elfen Lied with the subtitles, it might of been better, for I found the dubbed voices incredibly irritating, but what else is new? The show wasn't that well animated either, and the art wasn't that amazing, so I think the only real reason I'm giving it a seven is because of the story, and around the end of the anime is when I felt like the story really got interesting. As a matter of fact I was glued to my iPod screen around the last few episodes but I found the ending quite confusing.Overall I found this anime a little overrated, my advice to you is that you read the manga before watching the show, it may help you understand better. Also if you haven't seen it yet, don't get overly excited about it...
