jsawyer1 hey y'all i was bored and surfing the net and found the web sight for the man who played Brian. If you want to check out the drunk bus boy's web sight go to www.timmytime.org Brian the drunk bus boy is one of my Dav. I found a new scene that he is in too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc8vHftqAvs He is directing a play that he wrote as well Tim is an amazing man. Feel free to check them out and see for yourselves the scene on you tube is funny as hell. As far as Empire falls i really enjoy how they show Maine. I have grown up here and was excited to see it on TV. Please rent and watch this and judge for your selves at how good this movie is. If you liked to book you will love this movie.
dentonsfarm I must admit that I had never watched the HBO mini-series when it aired. As a matter of fact I was just looking at the DVD selection in Wal-Mart one day and saw that the cover and description looked appealing, so I purchased it. What can I say, the characters were very strong, the cinematography, and direction was great, and the story was excellent. I can't help but love films that have you guessing every minute, and once you think you have things figured out they through a whammy on you. The all-star cast was wonderful. Ed Harris, Paul Newman,... They each added the familiar faces that make you feel as though you yourself lived in this town of Empire Falls, a town of beauty, laughter, and secrets.
2jdv Excellent production--great cast, director, cinematography, etc., all in aid of making a superior soaper. Will the mean old rich lady get her comeuppance? (organ chord) Will Milt find out who his *real* father is? (organ chord) Will Becky and Ralph get back together again? (organ chord)Tossing in a Columbine-type element doesn't add the "contemporary" touch that the writer hoped would elevate this beyond soap. Without it, all that would be missing would be the Palmolive ads; with it, we just get the heavy hand of nastiness.Several have mentioned Nobody's Fool (a truly great movie) as a parallel, but that's like comparing King Lear with Days of Our Lives.
shanepb I witnessed the filming of a movie in Maine back in 1986 so was curious to see how they'd do in another town. I think they did a good job. I found myself looking as much as details as following the storyline. My only complaint is that they did not have a voice coach, or if they did, s/he had a hearing problem. While Maine has many dialects, the vowels are fairly consistent per speaker. It's rare to hear someone use START and CAHD. It's STAHT and CAHD or START and CARD. It's the inconsistencies that tend to drive the locals crazy, and there were plenty in this film. But the story was poignant, and piercingly accurate in so many ways. The flashbacks were wonderful, and they segued into the present almost seamlessly. The set and wardrobe were unassuming, as they are in real life, and that which stands out is an individual perception. Just like life.
