Reviews

doughyl I will make this very clear to everyone reading: This is the greatest inclusive anime of all time; inarguable. Without the typical Japanese stereotypes to scare away the more shy to anime types and people who may not necessarily be into this genre - because, lets be honest, it does take a type to watch some of these shows. The lightening of the over-sexualizing the female form, like in most anime's, was finally bearable to me: YES I CAN FINALLY WATCH AN ANIME IN WHICH I AM NOT BEING FORCED TO STARE AT BOOBS CONSTANTLY. Don't get me wrong, the creators still make the women 'top heavy', but they're not forcing the sexualizing down your throat and using it as a crutch to over-sensitize the eyes and guide the ear away from the horrific, useless banter in some anime. It is also the most inclusive anime due to the plot being followable by any demographic; it is not adhering to cliched framework of the anime society, mainly (over)used by the Shonen series'. Conclusively, my girlfriend (who fought me about watching any anime) tried to start numerous series' with me just so I could prove to her not all of them were that bad, and all failed but one, FMA Brotherhood. Now to review the series itself. I will keep it sort of short, simplistic, and a general overview of the qualities of FMA Brotherhood. So, no spoilers here!FMA Brotherhood is the revitalized and abridged version of the original Full Metal Alchemist series. Brotherhood, unlike its predecessor, followed the manga (for non-anime watchers that is the comic/literature version of a series) much better and even shortened up the vast majority of the filler arcs that weren't necessary that were found in the manga. In a world in which Shonen Jump says "lets carry this series out for 600 more episodes until it simply reaches a point in which no one is watching it anymore", the creators of FMA Brotherhood said "lets just put together 60 episodes, successfully telling the story that the manga did".The creators didn't stop there, they brought the manga to life. The beautiful imagery and animation within this series not only captivates the eye, but portrays exactly what the manga simply cannot do with mere paper. As for the animation and fight scenes, I will keep it brief. This is a show about a bunch of people who can turn anything into anything else, anything they could imagine. Team that up with honed fighting skills and different characters using different techniques and you have summated yourself a series in which the fight scenes are flashy and full of intense moments that have you gripping your seat - and no episodes where they just stand there and charge up energy like Dragonball Z haha. The story line is beautiful. With moments that absolutely tear your heart apart at the worst possible moments, taking away characters you love and care for, as well as comedic moments to break tension within a scene, the writers/creators of FMA Brotherhood knew how to string together an array of emotions that would grip you from start to finish of each episode. You WILL get attached to these characters because of the heavy development and you WILL be very sad whenever you realize something traumatic about their past, or they are ripped out of the story at the hand of an evil doer.In conclusion, although I only touched on a few points and maybe over-explained them, Full Metal: Brotherhood is ranked 9/10 as a "kids" anime show for a reason; something that can be watched by any and all and entertain equally across demographics. If you hate anime, I have no idea how you managed to get to the reviews of this, give this a try. It is not the dry, over-stimulating crap that Shonen has put out recently, and in the past. To poke holes in such an amazing series such as this would be ludicrous and come from a point of subjectivity, not objectivity. Facts are facts, and based on these facts I can honestly put together that FMA Brotherhood is and will be the greatest anime series of all time, for all who watch it.
hianranieri Awesome!! Since I watched it's my favorite anime I Really loved it!
view_and_review There is a lot to like about the anime series Full Metal Alchemist. For starters: the alchemy and alchemists. They not only stay true to what alchemy really is per definition--a form of chemistry and speculative philosophy practiced in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance and concerned principally with discovering methods for transmuting baser metals into gold and with finding a universal solvent and an elixir of life--but they expand a bit on it with the principal of "equivalent exchange". The simple explanation of "equivalent exchange" is that in order to create something you have to give up or sacrifice something of equal value. Basically, you can't create something out of nothing. It was a blast seeing alchemy and the alchemists at work. They were nearly wizards or superheroes even with their skills.Beyond the alchemy and the various alchemists was the quest of Edward and Alphonse Elric to reunite Alphonse's soul with his body. Their journey led them all over the place all the while they discovered more hidden truths and a major sinister plot. Then, separate from the Elric brothers' quest was a larger scheme involving the country of Amestris, immortality and god-like powers. The main story and all of the smaller stories within the series were great. And they didn't drag the series on too long. They made sure to actually conclude the saga instead of having the Elric's interminably roaming the earth looking for an answer. I love that the show's creators did that. A show such as this--one that has a definite goal--has to conclude. I've seen other shows in which they come up with dumber and dumber ways to keep the show going by denying the main character the completion of his quest. Shows like that get tired and old real quick. So, there is a lot to like about Full Metal Alchemist like I said--which leads me to the small bit that I didn't like. I became real annoyed with the morals of the Elrics and other "good guys". Were their morals bad? No, just juvenile and childlike in their simplicity. There were two things in particular. 1.) Their concept of all life being sacred regardless of who's or what life it is. They took it to such an extreme that they were willing to sacrifice themselves to save those who were clearly their enemies. There was even one scene in which one of the protagonists pulled a gun on her friend to save a homunculus (artificially created being). Quite literally it would be like a wife pulling a gun on her husband to prevent him from killing the creature that murdered their child. Really?! Would you kill your own friend to save some other creature just because it has life? That's a hypocritical and oxymoronic action if there ever was one. Let me kill this guy to prevent him from killing a killer!!!!??? Supposedly she did it because she wanted to prevent her good friend from going to the darkside (in a manner of speaking) by letting his anger control him in that moment. People get angry, especially with those who've killed their loved ones. Why deny him that outlet, even if it results in the killing of the killer? Do these moralistic pollyanas believe that somehow a person can control their anger if denied the opportunity to seek revenge? I think quite the opposite. If someone killed a loved one of mine and I could get the chance to end his life that would bring me a least some semblance of closure. Conversely, if I had the opportunity and was denied it because of someone's warped belief that it would "make me no better than him" then it would only cause me to be more angry. Because now, in this highly unjust scenario, I have a dead loved one and the killer still breathes. Yes, this is my opinion and I know not everyone would agree. But I feel strongly about not denying someone a chance at their vengeance. How often must victims be chided for wanting justice? It may be considered a human frailty by some but even still, let it be the choice of the wronged person to forgive or not.2.) I took exception with the belief of some of the characters that they could, or even had to, save everyone. To begin with, it is the utmost of arrogance to believe that you can save everyone. Secondly, it is a farce to even believe that everyone deserves to be saved. I don't mean this in an economic sense or a social sense, but in the sense of just good and bad. Of course everyone has a different gauge of good and bad but I'd consider murderers and would be murderers bad, yet some of the protagonists saw that they needed to save them as well.Even with those nauseating moments of saintly altruism that were rather sophomoric in practice I liked the show. It was heavy at times and light at times to keep a balance. The heavy moments, which were reserved for some sort of lesson, seemed after-school special like--like they were spoon feeding you what you should understand from this moment. There were other heavy moments that were done more properly where I didn't think the message was overly sappy. Overall it was a well done anime. It'd be nice if they could reboot it with another quest for the Elrics.
Steelworld For many Brotherhood is one of the best anime series ever made. But I'm not one of those. I watched the whole 64 episodes thing and I never cried, never laughed and never felt engaged. I can't believe Brotherhood has all 10 on IMDb. This series has to many unnecessary characters. Some of them highly over powered, immortal but still affected by death. Some of them are really useless and are nothing more than a hindrance for the protagonist (I hated Winry and Lan Fan with all my heart). Sound was clear, the openings were amazing, except for the fifth. Soundtrack during main parts was nothing special. The animation was also nothing special. The plot, in the end gets nonsense. Ed does nothing for around 50 episodes, walking around whith no real intention, killing the final (immortal) enemy with a punch(?). And what was that Al and Ed thing at the end? If it was enough to give up alchemy to save his brother, why Ed didn't do it immediately? What was all that about equivalent exchange, if they get everything they want without losing anything?? Final mention, some aspects were taken by other series. Just look at Pride being like Zebra in the C.B."Symphaty for the damn" episode (same aspect, same non aging capacity, same relationship with the father). I thought some parts where similar to Berserk (Ed and Lee in the belly of Gluttony) and the final sequence was taken by the last airbender( the promised day, the eclipse, Homounculus flying on fire just like the fire Emperor...). Not to mention the nonsense in the meaning content. You think is enough to nominate God, put without a order high meaning definitions to make an anime "mature"? Brotherhood has nothing more than tokyo ghoul, attack on titan and even digimon tri in the depth. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherood is a NON masterpiece. Definitely overrated for me, almost like fairy tail.
