Reviews

anthonycohen-60451 Seasons 1-3 (maybe 4 too) made for great entertaining TV. Carrie, Brody, Dar Adal, Quinn & Saul in particular created a good base of characters around which to revolve the show. The 1st 3 seasons where well written keeping you hooked & excited for following episodes, besides some dodgy side plots( Brodys daughter in particular annoyed the HELL out of me & his son might as well not have existed). After this though the show has seen a rapid decline seeing evermore far fetched & non-sensical storylines. As other reviewers have stated 24 had the most overblown & most unbelievable storylines EVER but was pure entertainment you left your brain at the door for. For a show like Homeland which wants to ground itself in reality this doesn't work & becomes all the more infuriating. As for the characters, Carrie has now become the most obnoxious & irritating character on TV. Claire Danes who i thought did a good job earlier in the franchise now trying to out-ridiculous herself & character episode after episode. Mandy Patinkin, who played one of my favourite characters & remains the only reason i keep watching, just now seems to be going through the motions as Saul. I think Mandy must know how bad the show has become but i want to know what becomes of Saul. Quinn was also a superb kick-ass character but was completely ruined with his cripple storyline arc & the character deserved better. Stick with seasons 1-3 but prepared to become increasingly p****d off with Carrie & her erratic notions, overacting & the painful Frannie storyline
escctrlshift By "hard acts", I refer to the first two seasons of the series, of course. The show was groundbreaking in some ways, and with such an excellent cast and gripping story lines -- including of course the psychopathology of the leads, played by Claire Danes and Damien Lewis -- who would have thought _Homeland_ would survive, and even thrive, for another five or six seasons. I wouldn't have thunk so, but that's what's happened. So one must credit Claire Danes, in large part, for carrying the show with her somewhat predictable, but never boring depiction of a high-functioning bipolar individual. Still, one misses her counterpart in Lewis' character. As much as this show continues to deserve its viewership, I cannot shake my early impression that the show's beginnings were, in several ways, its high point, and the latter seasons just a varied denoument. It does beg the question of where Claire Danes will go when the series concludes. One thing for certain is, she excels at depicting neuroatypical characters. Maybe Homeland's final season will give her a chance to shine again -- but for that Danes needs the vital help of the series' writers, directors and casting. I wish them luck.
nicksz-97203 I'm into the third season, so my review is based on early episodes. Much to say-edge-of-your-seat, intrigue, thriller that keeps you coming back. However, the story may leave you wondering. We have a marine returning home twisted and damaged from war. His family and friend try heartily to help him and seems things will work. Then it hits the fan - media picks him up, as do the CIA, and former foreign handlers. He is used, abused, turned assassin, wants redemption and to die, and gets his wish in a sh-- hole in Iran, apparently his body never returning home, His family and friend have disappeared, written completely out of the story, and nut-case lover/pregnant/CIA agent and her handlers go on to their next job. This is an odd, macabre story with no point. I compare this to other episodic adventures where confusion abounds. Intrigue to get you back to every episode is great, but so far, no great story. Personally I'm into story telling.
nghiatct I watched many crime/spy movies, Carrie Mathison is too emotional, lack of professional, compares to officers, detectives, captains, agents, operates in Dexters, Covert affair, Burn notice, The mentalist. Maybe because she is sick w/o being treated -_-
