The Sakuragoaka Girls' Academy curriculum traditionally focuses on the three "R"s of reading, writing and arithmetic, but Ritsu Tainaka wants to add two more "R"s: Rock and Roll! To do that, however, Ritsu has to save the Light Music Club from being shut down due to little problems like not having any other members or a faculty advisor. After strong-arming her best friend Mio into joining and convincing Tsumugi Kotobuki to make it a trio, Ritsu's would-be rockers are soon only one talented guitarist short of the quartet they need for school approval. What they get, unfortunately, is Yui Hirasawa, who's never held a guitar in her life, but she's determined to learn! Will the school halls come alive with the sound of music?

Reviews

Irishchatter I really thought this anime was really well done and the music was very uplifting. I like the fact that we see the 4 girls being more themshelves then based on how they look. I sometimes feel that some anime always makes young girls look "overly cute" but this one really stood out for me since their personalities were totally unique!Definitely recommend this anime to anyone who is need of music in their ears and a bit of relaxed humour as well! I given it 8/10!
salmanalfarisi-81574 So, this kind of typical anime which I like more instead of other anime that I've ever watched. Every time, I always look for anime with a typical story like this, doesn't really need the main plot, just a bunch of cute girls doing some cute things. This is the first slice of life anime I've ever watched and was an anime that made me love the genre. I mean, not everyone wants to watch anime with stories like this, no male characters at all, and need a process to get someone to get into this anime. K-On! is an anime that discusses a group of girls who love music with their daily activities at their music clubs. If you want to find something that has a confidence from beginning to the end, you're wrong. I don't really understand why people who didn't understand about slice of life thing that has no plot or plotless. Just like Lucky Star, everyone assumes the same as these two anime. The story is nothing special, just a bunch of girls who are enjoying their school days by being in the "light music club" and doing all sorts of ordinary things. It's a typical slice of life which mixed with comedy as well as something related to moe or kinda like that. This is a big step considering that many people didn't like the manga, KyoAni adapted the manga and made the anime version better. It's about music if you just want to read the manga which I think manga with music genre is so weird because you can't hear "the music." For me, this is the show that always makes me laugh every second, every minute of the episode. The art is cute and has its own characteristic of KyoAni. This studio always presents a heroine character that contains their actuating. The moe's part it's memorable from every depiction of the character and the background. Supported with all aspects from all of the famous seiyuu as well, I think the art is more like to be some sweetheart that you want to hug all of them and forget anything about life. All soundtracks are so catchy to hear. I think almost all the songs that I downloaded over the internet, especially with the opening and ending song. Sakurakou Keion-bu, whose members are Aki Toyosaki, Yoko Hisaka, Satomi Satou, and Minako Kotobuki all participate in their cute voice. However, I like the opening but not so memorable than the ending. I don't have anything about Aki Toyosaki and Yui Hirasawa for being detached which I also like her personality and her character. For the ending song, this is the best which I love Yoko Hikasa who's more seen as the lead singer than Aki. Both have their own uniqueness of their voices and there must be one that some make us annoying. It's enjoyable because it's more instruments to light rock and make it all different from the others. Ayana Taketatsu, Minako Kotobuki, and Satomi Sato are also great at filling their characters.Apart from the 5 main characters and heroines, the characters have different characteristics and have their own uniqueness. For the whole story, we will focus more on Yui Hirasawa, a lazy and always carefree. Her behavior is always doing weird things that make herself have her own cute side. Mio Akiyama, the opposite character of Yui, who is shy and easily scared but she is just like any other character that makes her have an attractive side. Ritsu Tainaka, energetic and always prank her childhood friend, Mio. Tsugumi Kotobuki, her seemingly ordinary but innocent in every way because of her luxurious life but her character doesn't really reflect a rich people in general. Although like that, she also has the other side of uniqueness. Azusa Nakano, her serious nature but easily distracted by everything including from Yui who always approached her. It's really hard to get into this anime because this is suggested by one of my friends who has been watching anime like this for a long time. However, the comedy itself never made me dropped so I always feel it at every episode. It's pretty good for some people because people are definitely still hard to accept anime like this considering all the characters in here are just women without any men. At last, men only become a cameo for every tiny role. There is a separate process and a willingness to be able to watch anime cute girls doing cute things besides K-On! but this is the right step if you want to know anything about typical anime like this.K-On! is an anime with their cute characters does cute stuff. This anime doesn't really need the core of the story, there is no seriousness to be able to enjoy it because you can turn off your brain and stop enjoying some anime with a complex story that you always into it. With waifuable characters, I think I'm also not surprised at the community and the internet love this. It's a lot of fun since you just wanna enjoy some plotless thing like this but it's worth it.
manisimmati »K-On!« is one of the most successful anime series ever made. To a distant observer this might seem strange, because the plot looks as empty as it gets. It's just about five girls hanging out together and playing in a school band called »After School Tea Time«. There is no drama to speak of and barely any tension. Still, »K-On!« is remarkable, exactly because it renounces any kind of dramatic structure. The depiction of everyday life is calm, sweet and surprisingly witty. (There are even some jokes about j-horror and slice of life anime.) »K-On!« is the perfect show to sit back and relax after a hard day of work. But there's more to it than that. With Naoko Yamada (»A Silent Voice«), the anime has a director of great talent. Her portrayal of the young schoolgirls is insightful and lovely. It's more about character, less about plot. Sure, some people might call »K-on!« a mere excuse to show cute girls. But the series has a bigger point to make. It's actually a bittersweet tale of lost innocence. Yamada clearly knows that the friendship depicted in the story is not as firm as it seems. There's a longing nostalgia encasing »K-on!«, the thought of the adult that goes something like this: »Oh, these naive girls, their friendship won't last forever. But I sure whish it would. Hell, I wish my highschool years were like this!«In the first season, Yamada totaly merges into the ideal world of the highschool student. In the second season, she unravels this illusion gently. The conclusion of this theme is very touching. If you want to watch a relaxing, entertaining and sensitive anime, you can't go wrong with »K-on!«. It's heartfelt and doesn't deserve the eye-rolls it sometimes gets.
BecauseIAmBATMAN Even though K-On! is supposed to be about the light music club in a Japanese high school, 80% of the show is the characters drinking tea, eating cake or simply having fun with the music part gracing us rarely. There is no plot and is mostly about cute girls doing cute things. But then, why does it work so well? Its the characters and the completely relaxed atmosphere. Even if the characters live in their exaggerated anime land tropes, they feel real and honest. There is nothing to worry about while watching this show, watching these characters have fun, be carefree and work hard when they need to makes us have a wonderful time. This show is the equivalent of being served hot chocolate after being invited to a warm cozy home in winter or cool ice cream in summer. Its the ultimate anti- depressant. There is great sense of escapist nostalgia while watching this show, its self aware with the fact with characters who never get fat while eating so many sweets, or having successful shows even though they barely practice and goof up something near the last moments. One would wish if real life were like K-On!When the series ends you are left with a sense of melancholia that is bittersweet on seeing the characters graduate and move on with their fun phase of school life. But you know they will never stop having fun till the end.
