xvoraz I don't know why I love this series so much. I must say I am not fond of series I watch only House m d. And this was sort of love on first sight... I download it every Sunday (i cant watch it in Hungary and neither online)I didn't live in the 70' when it takes place so I cant tell whether it is actually like this or not. I just think the actors are true in the sense that i believe them what they play. And the psychological play among swingers and their children is just believable. It shows both sides of the coin, swinging is not all bad or all right. And most important: I love all the characters, thats what makes this series so great for me.I heard they moved it from Saturday to Friday because of the low ratings... I cant judge this film objectively because I love it, maybe its not that good, but its for me for sure!
findingsparky After watching every single episode to date, I find that I'm really starting to enjoy the characters and story lines more and more with each passing week. The only characters I do not enjoy watching are the kids. From acting to looks (yeah, I'm shallow like that), they're all a poor fit, imo.The sex scenes are handled tastefully, though I find myself wishing the show was broadcast on Showtime occasionally, but I'm content with how it's filmed for now. I do like the psychological aspect of how choosing this lifestyle might alter one's way of thinking and how it will drastically change the dynamic of a relationship. It certainly doesn't make you come away thinking that it's all fun and games with no consequences.I truly hope CBS decides to keep the show. It's got great potential. I will miss it if it's canceled.
pcarlssons Swingtown is a brave, entertaining, and fresh series. It is good to see something that takes its audience seriously and that is not filled with violence. The cast makes a wonderful job of bringing the good script to life and in the hands of the professional production design from the 70s this series is a good example of American drama when it's really great. I really like the dialog and the way everyone looks and acts. The sexual revolution is something that American TV very seldom dares to explore. In this series it does it with much charm and entertainment value but at the same time it have a good story to tell. I also like thats it tells the story of two generations at the same time. The production values and the acting are all tom notch. Coming from Europe I don't know why there are so much fuzz over this series in America. The story is not at all controversial - it's just a very good TV-drama with a twist. See it!
DaveatDHoff I am from Chicago & I can tell you that this is NOT how respectable people that live in the suburbs especially those who lived near the lake behaved in 1976. The show is more reminiscent of how feature films portray this type of lifestyle of people that were living in Los Angeles at this time. We actually had one neighbor whose parents might have smoked pot & had a few 'pool parties' for adults..But, for the most part the people that lived in the quiet suburbs of Chicago up and down the Northshore at that time were too busy raising their kids & getting them into Ivy League schools. They were not behaving like the creator of this show is portraying them. (He apparently grew up in Winnetka on what street with what people remain to be seen?) I was very excited to watch this show; as I love seeing shows from this era. There are problems with this show from the first episode..Music is supposed to enhance a show not take away from it. The over-use of popular 70's songs makes the viewer identify more with the songs & less with the plot. Parts of the show really look like they took place in 1976 and other parts just look like a network show from 2008 trying to dress & style the actors appropriately. I am a huge fan of Lana Parrilla & Grant Show. I just think their characters would be better placed in New York or L.A. during this era. I guess when you have seen a bunch of John Hughes films knowing that John grew up in the 'real' suburbs of Chicago & depicts our towns with accuracy and humor it's hard to accept anything else!!
