mike julian I watched first episode and slowly warmed to it then bang it just sucked me right in, each episode better than the previous. Pablo Schreiber(the perverted guard from OITNB) and Eric Laden (Madmen) as the fighter pilots steal the show. Their antics and warped situations will keep you glued to the screen. Jack Black is his usual funny self, ever predictable in style but with his quirks he pulls it off, and you got to feel sorry for his Pakistani driver come unwilling sidekick. Tim Robbins is a man in control (except his sex addiction) while Carla Gugino as his wife pulls off cougar milf to perfection. I would say don't miss it!
billandbonnie I am mostly writing this review so that i can give "The Brink" 10 stars. This is the best television I've seen in a long time. Every character is wonderful and unique, no clichés. A plot with so many twists it's like one of the Sidewinder missiles. Almost the entire script could be put in IMDb's "Quotes" section. Well, the closest thing to a clichéd character is Jack Black himself, who plays the narcissistic self centered buffoon he usually plays. But hey, if it works, go for it. I could go on and on, but I'm not good at writing reviews and am doing this only to give it ten stars, so, hey, watch it, can't wait til next season comes out.
lolatengo I wasn't impressed with the first half of the pilot, but decided to keep watching. Now we've watched 9 episodes and can't wait for the next one.I'm trying to figure out why so many people don't like this show. I can understand that some people will just not find it funny, and that's perfectly fine. But after reading a number of reviews online, it seems that some people are upset that "The Brink" makes Americans look foolish. Others seem to think that it is a right-wing fantasy, which is comical given Tim Robbins' outspoken politics. Then there are people on the left who seem to think that it stereotypes Pakistan. Others don't like that there is no obvious hero to identify with, as almost everyone in the show is flawed. Someone said there are too many Jesus jokes. Yikes people, you need to lighten up.Although much of the humour is broad, there are lots of subtle jokes and comments. For example, I think it's hilarious that there is such widespread drug use; each social class has its favourite substance to abuse. Apparently, this kind of social commentary will bother sensitive viewers though. The acting is excellent, particularly Tim Robbins. I think the writing is fantastic, apart from a few really childish jokes. So, give it a chance. Make sure you watch past the first episode, and hopefully you will be rewarded for your patience.
bobbyneil1 First, This is my kind of fun, Guilty Pleasure viewing. I see it as the West Wing meets Shameless... The impressive cast, somehow rises above some of their feature film work, and Tim Robbins is clearly having a great time.. And his character is who I've decided I want to be when I grow up. But, Props go to the entire ensemble.. The Teamwork Works.. Do not tune in if you are new too the show without starting with episode #1... I'm pleasantly addicted, and can't go to bed on Sunday Nights without seeing the new episode... If you don't get satire, my condolences... But this show is a ride, and most importantly it's pure entertainment. HBO does it again... It (the show) has left me with that "Please keep going thing"... More Killer less Filler. HBO More please?
