Reviews

max-vandewiele-92-623339 Okey, I'll keep this review as brief and too the point as possible. The animation is just stunning. This anime is just gorgeous with a capital G. Voice acting is perfectly chosen. Weather you're watching the sub or the dub it's great. If I had too point out one negative thing it's the fact that some people may find the first two or three episodes relative slow. But please do yourself a favor and keep watching. As soon as episode 3 or 4 the series starts too click. The story is a writers Magnus opus. The characters have convincing motivations, backstories etc. And then I'm not even talking about the events in the episodes themselves. From episode 6 to 13 it's one big cry-fest. The stories are so heartfelt and heartbreaking I had to cry at least a few times every episode. Anyone with their heart in the right spot would cry I think.EPISODE 10 is without a doubt one of the best things you'll have ever seen.Watch this now.
smugglervalen Violet Evergarden. The story of a girl who was used as a weapon and her search to find the meaning of human emotions.I Intially stumbled upon this series while browsing Netflix. However, after watching its Trailer on the site, I was caught. After watching the first episode, I liked it. Ever since then, I have all but fallen in love with Ms. Violet Evergarden. This Anime contains everything I want and wished for in an Anime: Stunning Visuals, Beautiful Storytelling, and a Plot That will get you hooked. This anime isn't like other Anime shows that have been popping up recently. It isn't about the Action or the Battles in a War. It is about something deeper. Human Emotions. It is about how people express themselves both through word of mouth and writing. It is about finding meaning in the words we hear. It is about learning what it means to be truly Human.Rating: 100/10. Wish IMDB could allow me to do that.Recommended not to watch this show while doing anything else. Do not watch it while doing work, do not watch it while doing schoolwork. Set aside time to see this masterpiece and understand its message.
devotedchristlife Fantastic visual masterpiece, carrying a unique and enthralling story through interesting, real (though sometimes "unfeeling"), lovable characters. Everything the creators could have done right, they did: Violet Evergarden is deep, beautiful, and epic. A victory for the genre of anime similar to the success of Death Note. Despite a uncluttered, cozy pacing that fits with the theme, and some awkward English translations, this is a new bastion of excellence in aesthetic narrative.
kevinxirau Much as I enjoy sensational action and fantastical worlds, once in a while I'll delve into something more laid back, especially in the realm of anime. One such recent endeavor was a new show titled "Violet Evergarden", based on a light novel series, which I watched on Netflix. Plot: In a Victorian-style world, Violet was a nigh-emotionless teen soldier fighting in a war that took her arms. Now that the war ended and she is outfitted with robotic arms, she follows her major's last order to live her life. Violet takes a job as a ghostwriter in order to not only try to reconnect with the major but to also understand life outside of war, particularly human emotions which are foreign to her. The big draw of the series is Violet herself. Though mostly human, she acts like a machine, accentuated by her lack of expressions, eloquent vocabulary, and practical way of thinking, which can be mildly amusing at times. She isn't without depth, however, as her dedication and willingness to learn new things allows her to gain experiences previously unfelt before; as the series progresses, she becomes more and more human (and more expressive). Her actions influence others (each fine in their own right) as many episodes revolve around a side character's point-of-view and subsequent change of heart/perspective having interacted with Violet and she does the same, both gaining something from each other. In fact, her job essentially is about bringing lives together, a contrast to her previously separating them via the war. There are several drama scenes that moved me, especially one episode where Violet meets a girl with a dying mother, and the soft music that plays during these scenes elevate them to new heights. I also gotta talk about the animation, which is breathtaking. Lively colors, intricate details, great use of lighting, steampunk elements, and lifelike environments, like something out of a Renaissance painting. I especially love the water effects, starry skies, and the designs of the characters eyes which look like precious gems. There are a few action scenes, though they are not treated as glorious but rather how an actual war would feel. The show also reveals the effects war can have on a person and those around him/her, a confusing state of being to say the least, emphasizing the need to be able to move on when peace settles in. I'm also pleased to see little fan service beyond the designs of a select few characters, a problem most anime suffer these days. I had a good time watching this series. I can relate to Violet in terms of trying to find a purpose in life and took great pleasure at watching her journey. Overall, nicely done.
