trashgang After the, no pun intended, disaster flick 2012 Ice Age (2011) I was afraid to watch this flick here made 2 years earlier. But what a big relieve. It was much better then Ice Age but still it's The Asylum so it's full of bad CGI and stupid stories. Supernova isn't full of CGI and that's a good thing but it's also the acting this time, especially from mother and daughter that tears it down. It's also full of typecasting, just look at the Russian guy, if that isn't a cliché!The effects are of course laughable, just see the lightning coming down on earth. All so silly. And when they are almost crashing with the car the mother just keep on driving until they almost crash. For a Asylum flick it isn't that bad after all but still only watchable for the geeks of bad flicks.Gore 0/5 Nudity 0/5 Effects 2/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5
alistairc_2000 I watched this turkey on the syfy channel the other day...Here is the premise a supernova has exploded in a nearby galaxy and the radiation cloud is on it way to earth. We are all going to die but fortunately one man has a solution. He is going to use the star wars missile defence platform to shoot rockets into the atmosphere thereby making a force field for some unexplained reason... I know it sounds preposterous....It was. This is a truly lamentable piece of video, its got duff effects, no budget and no actors. The plot is ludicrous and tedious but it was strangely compelling. I had to watch it to the end to find out what happened.. Spoiler alert...So they save the planet from destruction and he comes back to a hero's welcome. So how may people are there to welcome the hero? 100000000? 100000000000? No just 2 people... that says it all. If I could give this movie zero out of ten I would.
mannyall Yes, this movie would never win anything, not even a razzie award. Yes the actors will never earn enough (with movies) to own a big house in the hills of Hollywood. Yes the movie is full of clichés (like most movies, even the ones with dozens/hundreds of millions in budget). Yes the special effects are similar to those of a few decades ago. And I could go on but I really think we should cut everyone involved with this movie some slack. I do not know what the budget was but most likely enough to buy (only) a single family home and not a whole town. It must not be easy to make a movie like this with such little budget. I watched the whole movie, I was not biting my nails of with excitement or covering my face with a pillow out of fear but. I wasn't completely bored to death either. I have seen much better but I also have seen movies 'as bad' which had budgets 100x higher. I am sure everyone involved (producers / directors / writers etc.) did their best with what they had (in talent/budget) If this is their best then good for them, I am glad they were able to create this movie which I am sure most are proud of. You can not expect such movies (again the low budget) to be wonderful. Sure some movies with even lower budgets (e.g. The Blair Witch Project) made it big, but hey, there was hardly anything in that movie other then a few scared people, trees, a camera and no light, no special effects ... that was just an original idea. I think Brian Krause can do a lot better, I have seen movies with actors (paid probably 10x the budget of the movie) act worse. Do we always have to have polished diamonds, sometimes the rough ones can shine too.
Snuggles1969 It's by the Asylum. That production company that brought us great movies such as "The Terminators", "Transmorphers" and "Titanic II" If you were expecting Shakespeare then shame on you. I love this kind of movie. SyFy are showing them all day and I'm just sad I have to go to work and am going to miss them. But yes, I gave it one star since it is truly awful. But I expected nothing less. This whole genre shows what great times we live in. Anyone with a cam- corder, a low end computer and cheap CG software can produce a movie and get it on a major "basic cable" network. AND bear in mind that Syfy do have standards. They reject a LOT of movies, so just imagine what quality is being consigned to bargain bins in small pharmacies around the world.Watch it (and others like it) with fun in your heart and time on your hands and don't think too hard about it.
