XweAponX For one thing, it's a gathering of Star Trek Alumni. That's not the negative though. All of those actors, do a great job and we end up believing some of it.No, my problem was with the lead, Morgan Lariah. She only has a few credits as an actress in some shorts, she totally lacked experience when butted up against the likes of Armin Shimmerman and Tim Russ and Manu Intiraymi. A lot of her experience is with writing and producing, but I am not familiar with any of that. But as far as this performance goes, some of her delivery was unbelievable. Normally, when actors have a lot of lines, they will have some trick where the script is attached to the back of a coffee cup, or on the ceiling, or on a door. Method actors of the 50's liked to do this, maybe that would have helped Morgan. Sometimes, her delivery was great. But most of the time it was just adequate.The special effects at the beginning, including the control consoles were almost like computer game CGI. But at other times it was decent. So not too many complaints about that, it's about what I expected. And there are some creature effects that were really good, not too much, not too little.If a better actress had taken the character, this would have fared better. But there is an alien incursion thing happening, along with a "The Beast Within" thing going on as well. The underlying story of this film is interesting and maybe believable, but we are besotten on several sides with issues. Including an "Alien meets ICE Agents" event, and some of the interchange between "Citizens" and "Non Citizens" is believable, it just comes down to basic Equality issues. But it's a lot of stuff.The main story arc has a nice twist. Marina Sirtis is playing some type of technician that can play back memories. She comes across a discontinuity in the memory stream. The explanation for this is rather alarming and it is one of the best parts of this film.Keep a lookout for Molly O'Brien as a Nurse, and "Saru" (Doug Jones) as the creator of a navigation program that is supposed to be "better than a person", he gets to swallow that one. The main interaction here, is between Lariah, Russ, Shimmerman, Intiraymi, and David Lim who was in some "Swat" reboot. The Trek actors and the other television actors all do a superb job, but to cast Lariah as the main female lead, was problematic. I can see her in a support role, but it was mainly, too large of a part. She pulled some of it off, but at the cost of the quality of this film.I'm not even sure where this film was broadcast, on the Syfy channel? If it was "UFO" Pictures, it was. a lot of those made-for-Syfi flicks are hit or miss, mostly miss. They are good enough to be entertaining once, I have seen very few of them that had any decent quality- And that was back in 1995-1998. But I am glad they they are still making these low budget boilerplate Sci Fi movies, and some people are gaining experience as well as being employed. So I hope to see the lead actress improve in the nest film I see her in.

hopanda Honestly, Manu Intiraymi (of Star Trek Voyager fame) drew me into this imaginative space thriller. The quality of his performance was one of the highlights of this independently produced film.

AlizaFinleyRichards 5th Passenger is not your ordinary sci-fi thriller, which is great, because I usually don't go for that. This film made me think. So many stories explore distopian futures, but with so much subtlety, poignancy, and endearing character development, that stabs so deeply at class and gender inequality. Special effects were transporting. The music was perfect. And how refreshing it is to see strong women being real. The star of the movie is someone to watch for, I can't wait to see her next movie!!! Hopefully, this is just a prequel... that is all I will say, because the ending leaves us with some interesting possibilities.

greenheart What could go wrong? Sci-Fi, such a popular genre with a loyal following and a cast that includes Tim Russ (Tuvok) from Voyager & Marina Sirtis (Troi) from STTNG. The effects early on were fine, spaceship explosions seemed reasonably authentic and the idea of 5 people in a pod and not enough air to support them all seemed a good one. We all had debates like that at school, should you lose from the balloon, the doctor, teacher, lawyer etc. But then the script kicked in and boy was it lame, the acting couldn't rise above the shocking material that the cast were given and when the alien intruder arrived, everything just got rather silly. My quote of the movie "One thing's for certain, the planet is a woman" Just about sums the script up. I feel Captain Pickard and Janeway have some disciplinary action to take.
