judithlevy411 Lovely. Of course nothing of this happened... Still a very nice fairytale.
studioAT This film is pure fantasy, taking a very small amount of historical accuracy, and blending it with a lot of nonsense. It's well performed in places, but it reeks of wish fulfilment, and only a very good performance from Jack Reynor (who was also great in John Carney's 'Sing Street') saves this film from being worse than it is.Very forgettable. Much like historical accuracy.
Desertman84 A Royal Night Out is a romantic comedy that tells a story of a young Princess Elizabeth, who is going to be soon Queen Elizabeth II, and young Princess Margaret as they venture out of Buckingham Palace to enjoy the VE Day Celebrations in 1945 when peace was declared after World War II.It stars Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley together with Jack Reynor,Rupert Everett,Emily Watson and Roger Allam. No question that it was a charming film especially with Sarah Gadon and Bel Powley doing well as Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret respectively. They have wonderful chemistry. It was fun to see them perform well to make it a watchable fare and for viewers to have interests in their so-called misadventures that involved royalties.Their experiences as teen-agers make them appeal to both teens and adults alike making it known that even people from Buckingham Palace can go wild despite being in a controlled environment.
cfdunmyer I loved this movie. I've seen reviews calling out some 'goofs' or saying it was 'pompous'. Seriously - this is not meant to be a serious movie. It's just fun. I watched it on a flight from London back to the U.S. - and was so happy when it came out on pay-per-view - so I watched it again. I thought they did a nice job on creating characters that look much like the real people would have looked. And for those who pay attention, they even used the king's nickname - which we've learned from other movies. So it made it seem even more real. One critique is that they really didn't need the one brief nude scene. Now I can't watch this with my grandchildren - which is a shame - because otherwise it would be fun to watch with the kids. The airline version did not have the nudity - so it would have been nice if they could have left it out altogether.
