Reviews

Tejaswy Nalam I have just watched this movie (May 2016) for the first time, and I was thoroughly impressed. Reading the reviews revealed that it was a low budget flick. This is something that the movie kept well to itself. The movie is tautly directed, and the 'interview' portions are brief and add depth to the storyline. This movie, even on a very, very, bad day, does not deserve a rating under 6.5.It is on the lines of District 9, and truly deserves a commendation. There are little sfx, but you definitely do not miss those. Despite being just a 90 minute movie with several characters, most of the important ones are well fleshed out.Definitely worth a dekko!PS: Watch out for hte post credits scene!!
Alex Vojacek After watching the movie in spite of the low score I felt compelled to write a review.Sorry about the expression but... What-The-Hell with the low score?. Is this for real?.I was expecting a pure-garbage shaky-cam non-stop-action with non- existent character development and/or story and I got all the above reversed!.Really, if you're trying to find out if this movie is good or not, read the reviews, don't believe the score.Alien Outpost starts a little slow but with solid character development, all the soldiers had their personalities and they are all lovable in their own way, you get to know them, the action sequences are not over- the-top and also very rare, aside from the final moments. This is a movie that focus almost entirely on the story and it's characters, it's actually a sci-fi movie that intends on telling you a good sci-fi story and for me it succeeds. If only they could get more money and resources to do it, this could easily surpass any of the Hollywood crap i've seen lately. As an invasion-alien movie it's somewhat average, as a solid sci-fi with a good mix of action and drama, this movie excels.Thumbs up for the solid acting, the nice story that stays with you after you finish watching it and for the imaginative script, I'm actually looking forward to the next movie, which I'm sure it can be a success if they're allowed to make it.People, stop reading numbers, just watch this movie, you won't regret it, except if you like stupid movies that depend on incredible CGI and dumb plots.Congrats for the accomplishment.
James A challenge to review, given that this film is pretty authentic-looking, raises some interesting issues and is at least competently done, and on occasions even impressive. This is not the first time that we seem to need to be reminded in a film context that the armed forces of the United States (most especially at the level of the ordinary personnel) are effective, brave and mostly noble in their intentions. "The Last Ship" has been doing something quite similar for the US Navy, and a little bit by the way has a pretty interesting pandemic-plague-apocalypse story tacked on. In the case of "Mankind's Last Stand" (aka "Outpost 37"), we have an alien invasion story with a twist relatively unique, given that the invasion was some time previously, and success with its repulsion has been partly, even largely achieved! That just leaves pockets of resistance to be cleared up - a dirty, thankless and often dangerous task now pursued out of the gaze of a planet putting its life back together, and seeking to put a very unpleasant setback behind it ASAP. The full story here unfolds via a pseudo-documentary "talking heads" mechanism (involving service personnel) which convinces pretty well and apparently has various time frames that leave we viewers a little ensure as to how far along the story the film is going to take us. It is more than half way through that we finally learn that the "US" in USDF does not stand for "United States" (shades of the USS in "USS Enterprise" - and a reasonable enough plot device given the goal of the movie). Since both alien invasion and (mainly) United States forces are involved, it is clear that this is not entirely new territory for a film. You've got series after series of "Falling Skies", plus "Monsters", "Battle: Los Angeles", "Cloverfield" - even "Independence Day" and "War of the Worlds" to choose from. Hence those who like comparing alien invasion movies, or are even carrying out a study of them, will certainly add "Outpost 37" to their collection, and probably even be pretty satisfied. The bigger question is what everybody else should do! It's not especially that "Outpost 37" is obviously a worse film. It really isn't, even if it is a modest offering that relies on (sometimes quite thought-provoking) storytelling and realistic scene-setting rather more than a grand scale or special effects. It's just that it got to the cinemas rather later than the others mentioned above, and perhaps after our appetite for this particular kind of movie has been satisfied...
douglasjeffreys-688-703001 I watched this movie because I was laid up at home with an injury and was bored out of my mind. This turned out to be a decent film. The acting was good, the special effects were top notch and the locations were clearly well thought out. For a science fiction film it was quite believable. My biggest criticism would be that it was too well produced and too tightly scripted for a supposed documentary, which it was supposed to be. You need more than some hand-held cameras to pull that off. The script should have felt a little more natural throughout and the cinematography should have looked a bit more "raw". Also, I felt that after the hypnotic-like actions of the 'suicide bomber' at the slaughtered goat scene in the rock quarry the soldiers should have been able to recognize the same behavior in certain characters later in the film. But, really, aside from that, this was a pleasant diversion.
