sreekanthvgood When i thought of watching it, i read the IMDb basic story line first. It was OK. The beginning few minutes of the movie was alright. But, what followed is totally lame. The script makes you ask so many questions on why the hell are they doing stupid things. Just for going on they act stupidly. It gets so boring after wards. I never fast forward any movie. God! I did it in this movie. And the ending, as expected. Such a waste of time. There are many low-budget movies which are taken so well. This is definitely not one of those. I don't know what to say, don't watch it.Final verdict : Ignore this. People who say that this movie is great, i don't know what to say about it. Watch it or Miss it? Definitely go for the latter option.
Wizard-8 I feel that I should first point out that I enjoy watching a lot of low budget direct to DVD movies, so I thought that "Alien Raiders" would have a lot to enjoy. However, I have to admit that I was preparing to write this negative review a long time before the movie reached its end. The movie is extremely confusing - it's not made clear where the gun-wielding hostage takers came from, what they know and how they know what they know. These characters, as well as most of the protagonists, are extremely grating and annoying, making it hard to care what happens to them. If you are looking for gore and monster action, there's not much of that stuff here. Further adding to the problems is that the cinematography makes the movie look cheaper and cruder than it actually is. About the only praise I can give this movie is that they managed to shoot in an actual supermarket, which helps, but only a little.
Wuchak "Alien Raiders" (2008) is generally regarded as a really good sci-fi flick, despite being low-budget (shot in 15 days in Inglewood, CA).THE PLOT: A mysterious team of armed individuals invade a supermarket at closing time. It soon becomes clear that they're not after money or goods, but something sinister and unearthly! The director, Ben Rock, said he was mostly inspired by "The Thing." The best way to describe the film is to say that it's a combination of "The Hidden" and "The Mist," but not as good as either. This isn't to say that it's not worth checking out, as long as you're a fan of the genre; it's just that those two films are better, particularly "The Mist." "The Hidden," while far from a great film, works better simply because it's less one-dimensional and confined. "Alien Raiders" begins and ends in the supermarket, that's it. Despite this, "Alien Raiders" is put together well, has an effective cast, a realistic vibe, and drums up some decent suspense.Carlos Bernard and the beautiful Courtney Ford stand out in the cast, but all the main actors are effective.Unfortunately, the one-dimensional setting works against the film. "The Mist" had the same problem, but was able to overcome because the long supermarket sequence is bookended by a prologue and, especially, a truly spectacular climax (the entire sequence after the group leaves the market). This wouldn't have been a problem for "Alien Raiders" if it was a one-hour TV show, but at 85 minutes the story drags in the middle and loses the captivating power of the opening. It also lacks the depth of "The Mist" (if you don't think that film has depth, read my review). Like "The Hidden," "Alien Raiders" is just a straightforward movie about some kind of covert alien invasion.Yet maybe there's some depth: I was able to draw an interesting parallel between the infected people in the film to demon-possessed people, particularly in the Old Testament period where there was no hope of deliverance except to kill the individual.FINAL WORD: This is a decent low-budget sci-fi film with a good cast, good acting and some real suspense here and there, but it's simply not as good as the movies it's compared to – "The Hidden," "The Mist" and "The Thing." The setting's too limited and the film doesn't contain enough positive elements to grant it anything above a high C grade.GRADE: C+
quinnox-1 I think another reviewer got it right when he said a lot of these positive reviews sound like they were written by cast and crew. Many of these enthusiastic reviews sounded like the boilerplate you would read on the back of the DVD box when checking out the movie at the local video store.Anyway, the movie seems promising at first and has good suspense and mystery to begin with. I agree with previous reviewers that the beginning and set up of the plot is the best thing this movie has to offer. Once the movie gets completely underway, it loses a lot of appeal and slowly becomes more and more mediocre. Eventually the movie becomes a total bore and then is ruined by an ending that is super unoriginal and dumb. The ending also makes you wonder why you watched this movie in the first place, yes, its that bad.I'll be generous like the previous reviewer and give it a middling 5 score, and only because the first part is pretty good.
