The script is not great. And the base idea is quite ridiculous. But it is fun. And quite creative at times. So don't ignore it. The animation is okay. And the dialogues are very good with a lot of slapstick. Beware tho of a very slow start when every participant is presented. My kids and I really enjoyed this movie. We've probably watched it 6 or 7 times. It still makes us laugh. I decided to rate it since it had such bad ratings. When you have children you really look at kid movies differently. Children like to watch movies again and again. So you have to hope it's something you don't mind watching. Some of the movies are so boring or they have parents dying or are just scary. This movie was just fun. I can't believe people are expecting a logical plot from this type of movie.The child actors in this movie all do a great job. The aliens are goofy and silly. The teenage sister and her boyfriend are annoying. But that's okay. The writing is okay. The parents are as dumb as parents usually are in this type of movie. Nana is hilarious.

I liked this movie, but only for character growth. The aliens were clearly smart, but not at all believable. How is it that the young engineer knew better English than an experienced commander and soldiers? And he only knew good English until he fell into the little girl's room, then he started to just copy what they said! The girl alien was in my opinion, the best ET. She is smart, capable and a good soldier. The human characters were the best part, of course. They have it all, controlling parents, a stupid boyfriend, a confident teen girl, gamer twins, a pyromaniac cousin, grandma, a seemingly drunk guy, a mathlete who wants to be cool but ends up saving the world instead and to tie it all together, an adorable little girl who is friends with one of the enemy kind. That is what every movie needs, but not what this toned-down alien invasion deserves. I mean, "the invasion is cancelled! Head home!" Is that not the worst line ever said by an alien?

I only write this review because I see all the hate for it on IMDb. Really what were people expecting from it? It was *supposed* to mindless fun!I watched this when it came out on theaters with my cousins. Two of us were older (in our late teens) and the other two were in their preteens, and we had a really good time. It was perfect bonding time because this film was about a bunch of cousins!Sure it had all the kid-movie clichés (e.g. grown ups are too dumb to realize anything is wrong), but it was fun, it was genuinely funny, and for a movie called "Aliens in the Attic" it had a surprising amount of character development. All the kids grew as characters throughout the movie and even the aliens had some character growth! Nothing deep, yes, but I was surprised that it was even there!Besides, when else will we get to see Raymond's mom kick some alien ***?
