Catharina_Sweden This movie was good, very realistic. They managed to make it suspenseful although we (or at least I) already knew the outcome. All the actors were very good and believable in their parts. This movie awakened an awful memory in me. When I was the same age as the young people in the movie, I was for a time living in a kind of hostel for young, single people. I was different from the others in my corridor: they were sloppy, unkempt, rude, badly brought up, smoked and drank a lot etc., while I was at that time a shy, lonely, intelligent and proper girl. I did not fit in at all. There were the usual arguments when people who have not chosen to live together have to share the same bathroom, kitchen, wash machine etc.. But it was worse than that: I felt threatened by some of these young people, who did seem unreliable and even weird. One night when I was in my room the others had a big party with loud music, lots of drinking and shouting. It disturbed me of course but I did not dare to complain. At 2 AM there were loud knocks on my door and shouts. I did not open. They had no legitimate reason to call on me at that time of night. The shouts and banging on my door continued for some time. I was afraid they were going to break in. This was before the era of cell phones, so there was no way I could call for help, and it was too high to jump out of the window and nothing I could use for a rope.I was terribly thirsty and had nothing to drink, and I had to use a vase for a toilet as I dared not go to the bathroom all night. Finally around 5 in the morning the party stopped and it became quite. I waited till I was absolutely sure that everybody was asleep. Then I packed my bag with my most valuable and important things, and left the rest. I tiptoed out, RAN away from there, and never went back. I went to the station and waited for the first train, and then I travelled back to my parents. It was a terrible experience, and I still wonder, after having seen this film, what would have happened if I had opened the door that night..? All in all, I think it is a very bad idea to let young people live together in student houses, hostels and the like, without any adult/mature person in charge. It might be very dangerous.
jasontheterrible Very interesting presentation causing one to shift in belief about innocence or guilt. Initially I thought it was a fluff piece giving Amanda Knox a pass but then it tells the other stories from the other players and a strong picture of guilt emerges. I won't tell you whose. After following the actual trial pretty closely I thought this film presented all sides with precision. I don't know how well it depicts the emotion of the real characters but it seems like everything was well researched. The only fault I can find is Hayden did not really manifest that icy cold stare and personality that has been testified to by numerous players. The guard in the prison and two accusers for example. She was called the "ice maiden" by a guard and anti-social. HP's portrayal is much more girl-next-door and is fairly one-dimensional.
Ivan Najakov This movie pretends to be a true story but there a 5 things in it that are not only false, they are things could get the screenplay writer sued for libel. To avoid making this a spoiler, I can't go into detail. right now this case is under appeal, and most people who know about the case expect her to be acquitted. What happened was the case that prosecutor Mignini presented was a work of fiction. The reasons why Amanda Knox was convicted are secret, therefore we may never know the true story this movie was based on. The trial scenes were shot inside a real Italian court room, so I guess a deal was made with the producer where we will let you use a courtroom if you agree to insert these 5 things into your movie, and don't ask questions about it. This is too bad because there were many people who appear to have put in a lot of hard work to make this a good movie, and it probably won't ever be shown again because of the controversy. I hope that can re-edit this movie and add some new footage, and turn it into a comedy.
evening1 Would Amanda be in jail today -- and for the next 26 years -- if she'd come home when her mother asked her to? True to her seeming sense of entitlement, Amanda had told her frantic mother no. She comes across as a child of privilege with a petty and envious dislike for her more studious British roommate. Though I wasn't sure whether she was guilty before seeing the movie, I felt more certain of her culpability upon viewing it.The performances are strong -- I knew this flick couldn't be all-bad when I saw Marcia Gay Harden in the cast. But the movie seemed somewhat sloppy by hinting at corruption in the Italian system but leaving the question open. (The fact the Italians want to put Amanda's parents on trial doesn't add to their credibility.) The movie is also ambiguous as to the guilt of Amanda's boyfriend. In all, a very-well-told tale about murder in a red-roofed town that looked too pretty to be the scene for it.
