akaladybug How this movie got a PG-13 rating is beyond me - the goriness alone should have earned it an R rating - scenes of exploded bodies and close-ups of a crushed in head (brains and all) were totally gratuitous. Beyond the question of the inaccurate rating, the acting was, at best, poor. No attempt was made to give the "Germans" any sort of accent and the little "Deutsch" they used was not spoken like a German would speak it. The plot, such as it was, was beyond depressing. It also did not create in me any sense of suspended disbelief. The only thing I can't believe is that I watched the whole movie instead of turning it off after the first quarter hour or so!
jlthornb51 Stirring war film from director Joseph J. Lawson, set during bitter fighting on the Belgian border during January, 1945. No punches are pulled in depicting the brutality of war and the effect it has on the combatants and civilians alike. The plot centers on an American tank commander who attempts to save the nuns and children at an orphanage in the middle of the blood soaked battlefield. The cast is superb and the performances are uniformly quite powerful. The tank battles are horrific in their violence and depicted with incredible accuracy and realism. There is certainly blood and gore in the film but it reflects the truth of war and are in no way exploitation. Stunning in its violence, amazing in the sensitively observed characterizations, intensely powerful, and an important dramatization of a monumental historical event, Ardennes Fury is a magnificent tribute to the men of the U.S. armored forces who fought against the Nazi hordes that enslaved Europe during the Second World War.
kosmasp Don't even try to compare this or put in the same league as Brad Pitts "Fury". Obviously that is what the producers (Asylum) are in for and what they are cashing in. For people to confuse those two and accidentally pick theirs (or on purpose, believe it or not, there are fans out there). Whatever the case, I've seen worse movies than this, even if the "acting" is not there at times.Still the production values are only half bad and while I wouldn't suggest you waste time watching this, unless you do like low budget movies a lot of course. The story does not make a lot of sense and the "romance" that is ensuing is cringe-worthy ... the action is decent for the budget this one uses though (not good by any means, but in relation to the budget)
jghchartrand I thought the story line was interesting and had significant potential. Unfortunately there were many scenes of gross insubordination that would never have been tolerated in any military. If this was supposed to be a fantasy film like Starship Troopers then I guess the special effects would have worked. Help with the special effects from personnel with a military background would have improved the film. Further help from individuals with military experience would have also helped dramatically with realism if that was what was wanted. Unfortunately the film failed on both counts as it appeared to strive to be historical fiction, but was "way over the top" for special effects" and lacked basically military knowledge.
