malvernator Big fan of Micallef and liked some of the stuff from Mr Franklin et al but this movie is SO BAD.A hint of this was on the Micallef Show when Judith Lucey (one of the "stars") told everyone it had bombed, stunk out the cinema on it's release. At the time I thought she was merely attempting humour and playing down how good it was - BUT IT'S TRUE!!!! It really is that bad.We hired it out with much anticipation, sat down in comfy chairs with our food and drink and waited for the movie to become funny. This never happened. We had to take the DVD out of the machine halfway through because it was simply the lamest, weakest "comedy" in Australian history. I think we may even have watched teletext instead. The two main "actors" simply CANNOT act, they seem like they are waiting for the other one to say their line with shame on their faces. And it is a great shame. What a waste! *Avoid at all costs*
freakybob Comparisons to other Australian comedies are inevitable, so I'm not going to bother trying. It's not the funniest film of all time, but it's a great laid back Australian film with a few really good laughs. In my opinion, the biggest strength of Bad Eggs, and indeed Crackerjack which came before it, is that the characters (the good guys at least) are very likeable; you want them to come through in the end. That was the big failing with "Welcome to Woop Woop" - you just wanted that movie to end.The reason the film hasn't registered as a huge hit is because it switches from a surreal comedy to a thriller about forty minutes in. Mick Molloy and Bob Franklin begin the movie a bumbling duo, and then it very quickly gets serious. The performances for me were offhand and great - the characters are really a bunch of real Australians just arsing around and having some fun. If you couldn't get into this movie, I suggest you watch it again, and let yourself enjoy it. There's no shame in enjoying a couple of laughs.3 and a half stars
Jay_251 I saw this movie for the first time last night, and thought that it was a great movie, mostly for Bob Franklin, completely for the story, and not at all for Mick Molloy. While I think Mick Molloy is a great guy, funny and stuff on the radio and "The Panel" talkshow etc, this was the first time I'd seen him in a movie...and well, he sucked arse. Judith Lucy annoys me as it is, so I shan't go further with that. Apart from them, I love the movie. It had a good plot, great gag lines etc. I noticed that every foreign country review I've read for it blasted the movie out of the water....I think this may be because while it isn't a "typical Aussie comedy" like say, The Castle, alot of the jokes and most of the plot contain(s) elements that non-Australians just don't get...namely our accent. But nuts to all the Americans etc who hate our accents. Anyway, two thumbs up for the movie!
cogs "Bad Eggs" is an utterly terrible Australian comedy, poorly written and remarkably badly performed by a band of non-acting types (mostly stand-up comedians). It's films like this that reveal the dearth of quality film talent in Australia, and of the misguided efforts to cultivate what little talent that does exist. It is the incestuous attitude within the Australian film industry where it matters who you know and not what you know (or your talent) that contributes so greatly to the problems. Tony Martin is a well known comedy writer and performer – how that translates into feature filmmaker is anyone's guess. It is an amateurish effort from a bunch of personalities clearly out of their depth. Maybe they should have written a sitcom.
