unbrokenmetal Two tourist couples decide to take a trip away from the usual route to a lonely island. They soon find that a mysterious doctor lives there who hunts people for his pleasure. During the war, he explains, he was assigned to duty as a sniper for his steady hand. „What had been an unpleasant duty became a pleasure. Then it developed into a passion, and then into a lust for blood", he openly confesses. He assures his visitors that he has room for more trophies, and soon they are in the dark jungle, prey for the lunatic hunter with a crossbow...Yes, this story is obviously ripped off completely from the classic 'The Most Dangerous Game'. This simple b/w movie is a crude imitation, but nothing more; a forgettable remake attempt you can skip without missing anything.
Chris Haskell This was an enjoyable retelling of 'The Most Dangerous Game'. I can't imagine this movie was meant for anything other than drive-ins, so it's got a low production quality and doesn't try to be anything it's not. Campy teenagers tell campy jokes until campy trouble strikes and concludes with campy action. Understand that you're not getting into a movie that will ever join the 1932 release in the Criterion collection, rather a cheesy old horror movie with a young Pa Brady trying to save the day. For fans of vintage camp, not for someone looking for the next undiscovered gem of classy cinema.Rating: 22/40
Thorsten-Krings This is a nice and well made B-movie and surprisingly it works quite well. It's not one of those B-movies that are just plain boring. The story, a take on the classic Count Zaroff, is well told- although at times fairly gruesome for the early 60s (though my edition states 59 as year of origin). The acting is surprisingly competent and even the sets are fairly convincing. All in all it may not be a stroke of genius but it's and atmospheric and entertaining film. There are great performances, partivularly the diabolic and theatrical villain but the rest of the cast are really quite good. The interesting thing is that this film is sort of a teenage version of Count Zaroff and therefore actually pre dates the genre of teen horror flics. Absolutely watchable and entertaining.
katdakay Taking its cues from the short story "The Most Dangerous Game", "Bloodlust" centers around a group of teenagers who land on a desolate island inhabited only by a mysterious, homicidal eccentric millionaire who likes to hunt and has surrounded himself with cronies. But wait. What's so weird about that? Oh, nothing, except that his species of choice is no other than...human beings. So of course, he gives the teenagers an inconsequential head start and then proceeds to attempt to hunt them down so he can add them to his 'collection'. Aside from the eccentric millionaire, the characters are relatively flat, static caricatures; you've got the pretty brunette, the take-charge Ken doll boyfriend, the archetypical nerd, and the smart blonde. One thing I did like about this movie is that, unlike most horror movies of the era, the women don't just sit there and scream for help, but actually are resourceful and intelligent enough to fight back at what is attacking them. Its one of the early "teen-scream" movies that were popularized through the early-mid 1960's--basically the slightly edgier equivalent of the Annette Funicello beach bunny movies. While most of the movies in the "teen-scream" subset of the horror genre are pretty lame, this one's actually alright. It lacks the cinematic brilliance of say, a Hitchcock film, but it was entertaining enough to be worthwhile.
