brandonshedder Cadet Kelly has a very unique plot. REALLY unique. It is so original that when I first heard about it, it immediately sounded bizarre and felt weird to be honest. I watched this as a child and only remembered the scene where Kelly was crawling through the mud while someone yelled at her and when she was complaining to her friend. That pretty much sums up this movie. While it does sound original, it suffers from repeating itself constantly and stretches of boring scenes. Hilary Duff plays a ditzy, annoying schoolgirl who is basically a clone of Lizzie McGuire. BORING. There are even moments when you can hear her thoughts, just like in Lizzie McGuire. The plot of this is essentially that Lizze is sent to military school when her mother marries an ex military general who has taken the position of the head of the school. There, she must become a solider basically, all the while dealing with an incredibly over the top, demanding military trainer played by that chick who voices Kim Possible. The film chronicles her battles with this girl, whose name I've forgotten, Eventually, the film randomly decides that Lizzie and Kim Possible don't hate each other as much anymore and focuses on the drill team competition and Lizzie's desire to join it. This is a refreshing change of pace in the movie, however, it becomes boring after a while. The same flips and tricks with a gun over and over gets monotonous. Maybe attempting to focus on Lizzie and Kim's issues at the same time as the drill team plot would have made this movie less of a drag. At the end of the movie, there is another random story that comes out of nowhere that involves Lizzie's bio dad visiting her, only to fall off a cliff and crack his head open on a ledge, falling unconscious. This requires Lizzie to save him along with her soon to be step dad while the drill competition is happening. The film closes on a bit of a weird note as the drill team loses the competition. I guess winning isn't everything, but come on, I want a happy ending! This is a Disney movie! I suppose my point is that the movie is boring as well as random, but overall much more entertaining than HSM. Acting was also good, especially that dude from office space. BUT WHO THE HELL CALLS THEIR STEP DAD SIR?!
departed07 I had the privilege of watching "Cadet Kelly" on the Disney channel and I got to say that this film is awesome. We all know Hilary Duff is known for playing ditsy bimbos in recent films, but in this film its different; Hilary plays Kelly, a person who doesn't care for anything around her except herself and is known for causing disasters. Her mom is about to be married to Joe (Gary Cole) a soldier who runs a cadet school and with that in mind, Kelly has to be a student at the George Washington Academy. The film has the premise of "Legally Blonde" and "Private Benjamin" were the blonde is an embarrassment, but in the end they succeed. This may be a Disney original, but this is a film that also teaches discipline and that Kelly must take responsibility. Overall, this is a good movie. With good acting and a storyline, I would recommend this film to my friends anytime.Good Job, Hilary Duff and the actors in this film!
Kat Monty As a former member of a drill team in a JROTC program, this movie was disgraceful. My drill team would never have pulled some of the moves they did in the movie. Unarmed fancy teams are not step teams!!! They do not preform routines like that and win where I come from. Military bearing is the most important thing when it comes to drill. Also, the weapons they use on the movie sound like colorguard weapons for a marching band. Those weapons sound like they weight about 1 - 2 pounds. The weapons a real drill team uses should be at least 8 - 12 pounds. Award winning drill teams that I have seen preform harder routines than that.Disney needs to research military schools and JROTC programs before they make a movie involving them. Overall this movie made me want to throw something at the TV.
ktmarley2002 Although not really an unspeakably terrible movie, Cadet Kelly is hardly worth watching. Hilary Duff does a good job as Kelly Collins, and so does Gary Cole as General Joe Maxwell. Shawn Ashmore isn't bad as Cadet Major Brad Rigby, but Christy Carlson Romano is just plain annoying (as opposed to impressive) as Cadet Captain Jennifer Stone. Now don't get me wrong. I really like Christy Carlson Romano. She's a beautiful and talented actress, and also one of my favorites. But there are certain types of characters I don't like to see her portrayed as (I also believe these parts to be where Christy's talent fails her). That includes constant wet blankets, characters who don't accept people's differences, really mean characters, and especially villains. Captain Stone seems to fall under all four of those categories. Then again, the part wasn't entirely fun for Christy. She didn't like being mean to Hilary, and I don't blame her (Christy, that is). In fact, when it comes to that particular part of Christy's role, I can't help but be sympathetic, in two senses of the word.1) I share her feelings.2) I feel sorry for her. When it comes to bad attitude in Christy's characters, low-level is fine with me, and medium-level is acceptable, but high-level isn't.Not only does Christy make a lousy villain, the conflict is also pretty bad. I mean, it's a new cadet's life being made miserable (deliberately, I might add) by her own instructor. That kind of conflict, from my point of view, should never be used. Also, I don't like the movie's plot.I understand that Kelly and Jennifer become very good friends by the end of the movie, but for me that's not quite good enough. Hilary and Christy, from my point of view, are better off playing characters who are very good friends to start with and remain as such throughout the movie.
