jelloalien-34219 I can best explain this movie like this: This movie felt like someone watched scenes in a bunch of other (good) cop/bad guy/bank heist/action movies and wanted to recreate all of those clichéd scenes.......and then since they had all these random scenes filmed they decided to just put them all together and call it a movie. This movie. A very bad movie with a sub-par plot, lazy script, meh dialogue, and a poor attempt at making it "smart" by bringing up the chaos theory (which based on how they describe what the chaos theory is, none of it really even happens in this movie). If you like bad movies, this ones worth a watch.
Marthian80 Chaos is about a suspended detective (Statham) who is teamed up with a rookie detective (Ryan Phillippe) to catch a bank robber (Snipes). The bank robber did not steal any money but used a computer virus (based on the Chaos theory, hence the title of the movie) to transfer millions of dollars away from the bank. When the bank robber then starts killing off his accomplices, things get messy for our detectives. The story of Chaos is interesting and the movie starts great with the hostage situation in the bank. After that, however, the movie crawls to a very slow speed when Statham and Phillipe try to work out what has happened. There are some good action moments later on but there are to few to make it a good action movie. It could have been a crime thriller, but unfortunately there is hardly any suspense build up in the movie. The actors (with the exception of Phillipe, who was the only believable character) are all incredible dull and some are just reading their lines. Statham was also miscast, he cannot play a detective with a traumatic past, he is just Statham. Seeing him teamed up with a rookie reminded me of Snatch, but that movie is full of black comedy and cool gangsters, which this movie also lacked. There is a twist at the end, but they did such a poor job with suspense building that I couldn't care any more when it was revealed. Chaos is a mediocre and disappointing movie which could have worked with better acting and suspense building.
carbuff In this world there are basically only two kinds of Jason Statham movies--good ones and bad ones, but, this one belongs to the rare third category of mediocre. Statham has little range as an actor (although he's Meryl Streep compared to his co-star Wesley Snipes), and he's clearly always playing an idealized version of his off-screen self; however, when a script properly exploits his well-above average physical capabilities, his above average intelligence, but his significantly below average emotional sensitivity to its advantage, the result can be very entertaining. Granting a pass to all of the plot holes that inevitably hit you during or after viewing a movie like this, this production's real dilemma is that the for the plot to truly come alive, it would require as much from Statham's heart as from his head and muscles, and, unfortunately, you can't get blood from a rock (although Statham has a proved ability to get blood from pretty much anything else). Therefore, without tossing out any spoilers, the only really big problem I have with this film is that the complex plot would be much more believable if Statham were able to naturally convey a more complex person. On the positive side, this movie isn't truly bad or totally predictable, and I don't feel cheated in any way for having watched it. As a matter of fact, I expect that most Statham fans will probably enjoy it, but in the final analysis, I personally just didn't "feel it". To each his own, and, in this particular case, I won't take any issues with that.
mbgondor Truth be told I watched this movie for one reason only. Jason Statham. That said I did find other things to like about this movie and a few I could have done without. Now I will grant anyone who reads this that I've not watched many Ryan Philippe movies. If I did I don't remember he was in them. His performance was rather blah. Even Wesley Snipes with as little screen time as he had made his character interesting. Now back to the things I liked. This movie starts out with a bang. I really loved how they told the back story through the audio clips and newspapers. That stood out. It made Connors bad attitude when his boss shows up at his door a little more understandable. One thing they could have elaborated more one was why Snipes' character quit, retired or whatever it was he did. I didn't pick up on that. The twist at the end is what really throws you. When I saw it and it is a doozy (trust me) I was blown away. I had to rewind and watch it one more time before it clicked. You just aren't expecting it.The end was worth the blah from Philippe who seems to be trying too hard or not hard enough to balance out his costars. Chaos was a good thriller.
