dominickdesid While this well made and interesting film depicts a Winston Churchill (W.C.) as a warm hearted human being, and pulls it off solely behind the extraordinary acting abilities of Brian Cox. This performance by Cox is my favorite, alongside his other remarkable performance as Laurent LeClaire in Thérèse Raquin (1980 BBC TV Mini-Series). Bravo Brian Cox! The real Churchill saw himself as the PM to His Royal Majesty the King, supreme ruler of an empire that enslaved more than a quarter of this planet. The policies of this imperial occupation can be compared with those of the Nazi occupation in almost all respects. It has exterminated with famine, blade and blaze more people than other past greats like Genghis Khan (Temujin), Attila the Hun, Hitler or Stalin (Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvil), but certainly never did the work of good! Churchill always fibbed about his dear Britain's vital role in launching both genocidal 20th century world wars on the European continent and asserted it was always the passion of Germany to play the dominating part in the world which was at fault. So while Adolph tirelessly waited up until the last possible moment (Dunkirk) with wide open arms for this most beloved natural alliance with Brits to be consummated, he was ultimately jilted at alter instead...By the controlling faction around Winston Churchill, which wanted to continue that British empire dominance, maintain control of their Anglo Hitler project and his goose stepping minions to move east, while laying waste to Europe for as long as possible, and thus finally destroy USSR (Russia) completely once and for all. Winston Churchill and junior partner Monte (well portrayed by Julian Wadham) parlayed their cold, calculated, strategic, and specific missteps into prolonging the war minimally by 6 months, up to possibly well over a year, in service only to the policy of Perfidious Albion which rules the world. Thus, by prolonging the war, permanently laid to rest the FDR post war end of empires de-colonization and development plans for the benefit of all mankind! Thus Churchill saw Japan, as Japan saw itself, as another imperial power, whose occupation held in safekeeping, so to speak, the British king's imperial possessions, until a more appropriate time would come for their reoccupation. Churchill wanted a post WW2 re-introduction of the monolithic British centered colonial structure, as had been the case for most of the 20th century, continued colonial and neo-colonial repression, and enforced backwardness under British, French, Dutch, Belgian, and Portuguese control. Immediately after the Japanese capitulation, the British moved to occupy Burma, Singapore, Malaya, and Hong Kong, their former colonies, as well as Indonesia, Thailand, and South Vietnam. Winston Churchill's lifelong aversion to colored people.... By the standards of today-and possibly even of his own time-Winston Churchill was a convinced racist. For all his public proclamations on the 'Brotherhood of Man,' he was an unapologetic white-not to say Anglo-Saxon-supremacist. It was Churchill, Jan Smuts (very well portrayed by Richard Durden), and Cecil Rhodes who were the architects of apartheid, and never advocates of "democracy" in South Africa. He also overtly advocated compulsory sterilization, and delved into eugenics. Churchill wanted to sterilize one hundred thousand "mentally degenerate" Brits, and actually sent tens of thousands of others to labor camps.
seanfacebook This is another example of "fake history" by the film industry. It is a shame that many people will watch this hoping to learn something only to be fed this drivel. Churchill was a supporter of Operation Overlord in 1945. He thought, correctly, that it couldn't work in 1942 or 1943 but by 1945 he was fully on board with the need to go back to France.I can't complain about the acting. Everyone does very well but that fact that is it utter crap is a big issue. Avoid.
squaredup Gonna give this a perfect score just to piss off all the Churchill fanbois. Apparently they didn't like how their dear leader is portrayed in this movie. Well, sucks for them.10/10 would recommend watching this with your Tory-voting friend. Peace out.
mrjmayes I didn't know anything about Churchill. This taught me a lot and was beautifully shot with some great music. Standout scene was where the king met churchill to tell him he could not go on the ship. Loved it
