adonis98-743-186503 Two boys growing up in a violent neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro take different paths: one becomes a photographer, the other a drug dealer. Cidade De Deus (City of God) has a very stylish look as a film but i also enjoyed the camera frame work at the beginning and how it was spinning so damn fast. Unfortunately despite the excellent camera work and very good cinematography the film was extremely slow pacing and that kinda took me out of the whole thing since the acting was pretty good and the way that it depicts some events were brutally honest and 100% violent but as i said the pacing was very off and just made me yawn in certain moments. (5.5/10)
Nabil Alwaili City of God was a study in brutality. Offending all of the senses, the movie proceded in using a multisensory approach to capture the very essence of violence, in every sense of the word. Human beings of every age were tortured and murdered. A main character was depicted inflicting multiple injuries and deaths while laughing hysterically. I had to wonder what the point of the movie was. Any claim to artistic expression evaded me, entirely
rokbaljak I liked the movie, the First half was perfect and the other one was ok. The only problem was the shaky cam that got kinda annoying. The movie gets a bit too dark. But no, I MEAN DARK AS YOU CANNOT SEE what is happening. Otherwise good character development and setting. 7.5/10.
fgfotocinema I saw Cidade de Deus in a movie theater, just the week of the premiere. Although there were long queues, and there was almost no place to sit in the room (I only got a seat in the front row where no one usually sits), I was not prepared for the impact the play produced on me. In a clear language, and with direct images, but without being appealing, the film showed how the period when the favelas were idealized by the middle class occurred - after all, because they were in the hills, it was said that they lived there from the sky '- to communities where gun-to-mouth drug-trafficking shootings are a constant. Combining bluntness and good humor, Cidade de Deus is a movie that was born classic, and that only improves every time you review it.
