videorama-759-859391 I had the opportunity to see this horror weeks before it's video release. Boy, I was in for a let down. It fails on everything. First, it feels so much like Scream, which stands a superior to this c..p. One good thing was seeing Kylie Minogue, as one of a make up crew of a film set, whatever, getting knocked off in the first ten minutes. She says to the killer, veiled behind another scary mask, very Jason Vorhees, and Michael Myers, "That's the best acting I've even seen you do", before she bloodily disposed of. The run down of story, involves a cursed slasher film, that was dropped, on account of some of the crew getting knocked off. Now in the present, some young budding film makers, want to resurrect it, so we know what's to ensue. The films waste some bloody good performances, disregarding the latter. The film has a lot of dark scenes, has sloppy story telling, and is not the clearest film to follow and American import, Molly Ringwald, playing a bitchy American actress, just overacts. Even how it ends is crap. The whole thing is messy. It's cinema poster, sporting some scissors and nice dashes of blood whatever really sells you down the wrong river. Terrible.
cchires I saw this movie last night on Fearnet.com and although it was made with more style than your run-of-the-mill, low-budget horror movie, it was still pretty awful. You know its not a good sign when the first five minutes, which highlight the cheesy movie being made within this movie, are actually better than the rest of the film. It's like once the real film started the fun died. The aesthetics of the opening scene work well and the result is a terrific parody of mad slasher movies. The framing of the opening shots are so overwhelmingly yellow and Molly Ringwald's acting is so over-the-top that the whole sequence is very funny on par with the "Scream" movies. Unfortunately, the reminder of the movie did not have a fraction of inspiration or style. My big complaint about this movie is that the premise of the murders are set up to make you think that one of the young cast members is the killer. So as the movie progresses, you're trying to deduce who it is (which can be fun). Not that I would dream of revealing the outcome, but suffice it to say that the explanation of who the killer is - in a word - sucks! And what should be an exciting climax, is quite dull.I only have two requests of a movie in order to be entertained and that is that they (a) keep my attention and (b) arouse some emotion. Aside from boredom, the only emotion I felt while watching this movie was sympathy for Molly Ringwald. Her talents are just plain wasted here. Hopefully being in this movie hasn't discouraged her from ever going back to Austraila:(
Scarecrow-88 A film crew hoping to complete an unfinished, notorious horror flick, with a reputation for anyone's seeing it being killed, is hunted and killed one by one thanks to the psycho from the film. I didn't stutter..that's the ridiculous premise. A character in the film informs us that the killer is the sum total of all the creative energy that went into the making of "Hot Blooded", the slasher flick being helmed by a stern female director who was murdered by her actor donning the psycho's mask. Okey dokey. So we watch as this supernatural slayer from a film strip slaughters the young student crew, newly removed from the film school ready and ripe for being sliced & diced. There's an assortment of bloody violence on display as the killer uses his garden shears to behead and stab. He doesn't just use his shears..he often burns people with lit petrol and even uses a meat cleaver at one point.Molly Ringwald, out of all people, is the name carrying the picture as a bitchy lead actress who orders everyone around while griping and complaining endlessly. Why is Ringwald in this tripe? Is it a sign of a career on the skids, coming off the rails? Nah, this is merely a hiccup in her career, but one that really echoes loudly. This slasher flick, besides it's laughable premise, is just a mechanical kill movie parading out cliché after cliché, just a bit more gory than the Scream/I Know What You Did Last Summer flicks populating the cinemas at the time CUT was made. Only exception besides a decent performance from Jessica Napier as the young female director Raffy, motivated to finish the film because of who her mother was, and some good melting effects at the end, can not compensate the by-the-numbers screenplay or a terrible twist which makes little sense if one questions just how the person was able to find a rare print if all the others were possibly destroyed.
callanvass This is surprisingly above average slasher, that's enjoyable and well made, with some decent gore!. All the characters are decent, and the story is quite fun, plus Molly Ringwald played the annoying bitch extremely well. I bought this at a pawn shop for a 1$, and it was surprisingly worth it, and the special effects were pretty damn good for the budget, plus I loved the mask the killer wore as it was actually somewhat creepy. The finale was really cool, as I loved how they defeated the killer, and the ending while predictable was very amusing as well, plus all the characters except for Ringwald were surprisingly pretty likable!. It's decently made and written, and I thought it was quite creative and original at times as well, plus some of the death scenes were very impressive. This killer didn't mess around, and I loved it, and Slasher fans(like myself) should really enjoy this film, plus The opening was really wicked too, with them filming the movie!. This is a surprisingly above average slasher, that's enjoyable, and well made, with some decent gore, and I say it's well worth the watch!. The Direction is good. Kimble Rendall does a good! job here with solid camera work, using a creepy setting, good angles and keeping the film at a fast moving pace. The acting is solid!. Molly Ringwald plays the bitch extremely well, and I had troubles feeling sorry for her, after all she was supposed to be the heroine, she turned out better towards the end, but not by much, I'm surprised she decided to do this film, nonetheless she did an excellent job!. Frank Roberts is fantastic as the killer, he is menacing, creepy and had one hell of a mask, and this guy didn't mess around, he was fantastic!. Kylie Minogue plays a bitch very well in her small role. Jessica Napier is cute and does fine as the other heroine. Rest of the cast are fine. Overall well worth the watch!. *** out of 5
