genibeck "Dead season" was one of 6 movies from a Zombie-Collection. Most of them where just bad. When I started watching this movie as the last of the six (and a few month after the first) I was sure it will be boring and predictable. But I watched it till the end, what I didn't with some of the other 5. Acting was OK, most actors did a good job. The locations were used best possible. The story line is not overwhelming but OK. And there is a surprising turn or two. But that's it. The special effect, on the other hand, were a mess. Some zombies didn't look dead at all to me. There are people in the supermarket looking more scary. I've seen a lot of bad zombie stuff. In the end I have to say "Dead season" is worth 5 of 10 stars. If yo really need to see another zombie movie, why not picking this one for a rainy afternoon.
Uriah43 After a zombie apocalypse, a man and a woman decide to flee the American mainland and sail to an island. When they arrive they find themselves being evaluated by a group of people already there on whether they should be allowed to stay or whether they should be killed. Since "Elvis" (Scott Peat) is a medic his services are in great need and so he and "Tweeter" (Marissa Miller) are allowed to stay. But they soon realize that there are a couple of big problems. First, a Dutch cruise liner has sunk near the shore and zombies are managing to make their way from it to the island. The other problem is a lack of food. At any rate, rather than give away the entire story I will just say that this is a standard zombie film. It is grim, with no humor to speak of. The acting is adequate. So too is the action and the gore. In short, it's not spectacular by any means but it is definitely worth a look for those who enjoy this genre.
natebouchard In case you're wondering why a rating that describes a movie as "not bad" would rate this 10 stars, the current rating is 4.3 and that's far from the case. Romero fanboys simply are impossible to please (and endlessly pretentious) while the gore-seekers were only thrown a couple of bones during the length of the film. Realistically, this is a zombie movie that takes place on a tropical island, often in the day time and thus is not filled with pop-out scares. It also focuses heavily on the characters who are smart enough to hole up in the safety of their compound as much as possible.More than anything, I expect people disliked the fact that this movie makes too much sense. It's a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't conundrum. Either characters do stupid things and tense action ensues, or they hole up, plan wisely and people call it a boring movie. That said, I particularly liked one instance where the characters are drawn into acting reckless, but it leaves you feeling "Yeah, I'd do the same". Which left me a bit impressed.Make no mistake, it's not perfect. The makeup is good and the camera isn't half bad either but the acting isn't amazing although it doesn't have to be. Things feel purposely flat and grim. This is certainly not a B-movie. It's too serious and lacks any camp moments. Some people may feel the setting works against this but I thought it worked quite well as a "spoiled paradise".Overall, I watched it to the end, never groaned at a characters actions and enjoyed the moral dilemmas and zombie-face-smashing equally. More than I can say for a lot of this genre.
bjjnedan Dead Season is about a couple, of 20 something people, guy's probably closer to early to mid-thirties and the chick, who's decent looking and a badass, is late teens, early 20's, 23 max, escape their city to an island fortress. A makeshift military fortress, where food is scarce and it's not all that secure, but it's still a fortress, I guess. Push comes to shove, the 2 new arrivals bring about the complete destruction of the place. Blah, blah, blah....Dead Season is well..., I don't know, it's pretty much a run of the mill zombie flick. Well..., except for the island fortress thingy, which actually reminded me of a couple issues of, "The Walking Dead," comic, I think issues 31, 32, or 30 something anyway, barely minus the rape in the comic and the fact they're on an island where there is nothing to eat. The acting was almost bearable in very few scenes, while being bad for most. The zombies themselves are rather shameful. I mean, the make up is passable. The effects are..., passable. But..., I don't know, it was something about their overall demeanor and the way they moved. I didn't know that you could make a character who is literally braindead seem stupid. But they manage it in this C-movie. There's actually a whole helluva lot more that I should really point at as bad, but like I said, it's a C-movie (not really sure if that's an actual class of movies, I just know this isn't good enough to be considered a B-movie), so, rather than point out all the bad in this movie, I'm just going to say don't have any kind of above par expectations for this, and it's okay. I was going to rate this a 1, but..., I don't know, the heroine just seems cool to me, and the surviving daughter is pretty hot.
