After first film's unexpected finale, this one continues adopting the manga storyline while adding some minor original twists, leading to a completely changed and, in my opinion, improved ending.Although bad visual effects and mediocre acting might turn some people off. If you can look past that, and if you weren't satisfied with the original manga ending, this might be just what you are looking for.

The story in "Death Note: The Last Name" (aka "Desu nôto: The last name") was better than the first movie and it did a good job as a sequel. But not only because of the story, but also because it was just better directed.Ryuk was also better animated and given more of a personality in this movie. And compared to the second God of Death then Ryuk was far superior in both design and personality. It was good to see the L character as more of a focal point to the story, and the Misa Amane character added a lot of flavor to the movie and the story in general."Death Note: The Last Name" was carried by the performances of Ken'ichi Matsuyama (playing L) and Erika Toda (playing Misa), while Tatsuya Fujiwara (playing Light) still had the charisma of drywall."Death Note: The Last Name" is a story- and character-driven movie and it far surpasses the first "Death Note" movie in every aspect. However, you should still watch part one first to fully understand what is going on in part two.As I haven't read the Manga or seen the animation, then I am not sure how much of the movies stay true to the source of origin. But as such, I can still say that the live action movies are good entertainment.

Taking place after the events of the first movie Light joins the task force headed by L and a new Kira emerges. Running at over 2 hours the suspense never lets up and is a satisfying conclusion to the live action death note movies. As with the last movie the performances and direction are excellent as with newcomer Erika Toda who stole the screen as Misa Amane and Kenichi Mastuyama as L. The rest of the series was adapted into the live action version and much of the final part of the original series was cut out leaving the movie to head off in its own direction whilst staying true to the manga/anime. Fans of Death Note might like this live action ending better since its much more unexpected and satisfying unlike the anime version.

This worthless piece of garbage is an absolute embarrassment and shame to the amazing anime series. They change so much that it may as well not be called death note, and the cinematography/effects are worse than the acting. These live action adaptations are simply horrid, and it boggles my mind how this has a rating beyond 2/10 overall. I can only assume that a bunch of 10 year old's who've never seen the anime voted 10 a bunch of time.Do not waste your precious time watching this terrible live action adaptation of a GREAT anime series. Ironically, this movie does not do justice to the series at all, and in fact, tarnishes its name and may be considered evil by some.
