spivey07 Helen (Kimberley Elise) is a black woman who is married to the very well know and powerful lawyer Charles (Steve Harris) who gets thrown out of her home one unexpected night. The high-class woman is then forced to go from rich to poor in a matter of minutes. She has to go from this large lavish home in the gated community to her grandmother Madea's(Tyler Perry) small home in the center of the ghetto. She then is forced to make a living for herself, which she has never had to do before. Along with trying to get rid of the U-Haul guy Orlando (Shemar Moore) who is falling for her but she has no interest in him. She eventually gives him a chance and falls for him just as much as he has fallen for her. Helen will soon be faced with a hard decision though, to stay with someone she loves or go and tend to the man that threw her out with the motive of seeking revenge on him.Revenge isn't always as sweet as you think it will be. This can be seen when Helen is given that opportunity to get him back. But she is quick to realize it wasn't as good as she hoped it would be. She also realizes she could have lost the one she loves by taking this opportunity. It's similar to Madea's Family Reunion when Victoria sought revenge on her daughter Vanessa for causing her to lose her rich husband. The reoccurring want to seek revenge is a motif on its own. The use of high-key lighting just adds to the affect of the already intense scenes such as when Orlando says that she is a bitter black woman but her response is "No I'm mad as hell." The fact that revenge was sought after it never brought true happiness like love did.
gangstahippie Rated PG-13 for drug content, thematic elements, crude sexual references and some violence. Quebec Rating:G Canadian Home Video Rating:PGDiary Of A Mad Black Woman is the first of the so far two Madea movies. The films are written and directed by Tyler Perry who wrote the plays which the film is based on and the man who also plays Madea.Like Madea's Family Reunion, Diary Of A Mad Black Woman is mostly a drama with Madea and her brother being the comic relief for the film. The film is about a woman named Helen who after living with her husband for a long time, finds that he doesn't like her anymore and has been cheating on her.He then kicks her out of the house and she goes to live with her aunt Madea and her brother.Madea tries to help her out with her problems.Meanhile Helen meets a Mexican man who she falls in love with.Diary Of A Mad Black Woman is a funny film and I recommend it for fans of Madea's Family Reunion(a very underrated film I might add).
saturdaynightbeaver Nothing seemed to match in this film. I found myself in the realistic world of a successful couple and then suddenly a madcap, lame version of the ghetto. I found a female lead that was charming and smart, then suddenly she shows no social savvy or wit at all.Continuity is important to a film experience and I was constantly reminded I was watching a film in this one. Sets didn't match, worlds didn't match , and the logic of characters didn't match in the slightest. Two good examples: A woman finds her man with another woman with the inference that he is cheating. She goes home to find her closet and things packed up with a whole new wardrobe to replace it. And she thinks that this is her husband's way of giving a gift to her? No one with any amount of street smarts would believe that all their packed belongings bodes well. The other is simply a character low on money shooting a hole in a the ceiling for no good reason other than getting someone's attention in a moment of banality. I'm guessing Mr. Perry was looking for a laugh, but simply shooting a gun isn't funny. And no transvestite grandma in any walk of life would ever do that.
christian mailloux I recently came upon this movie while surfing channels in my Jamaica hotel room. The movie was about 30 seconds in, so I thought I'd give it a try. My first impression was one of utter disappointment. The writing, acting, and directing were at a glance completely awful. But I thought I'd stick with it; maybe it would get better. And I have to say, by the end, I hadn't changed my mind. And heres why: The characters. Every single character in the film was completely unbelievable, and I could not relate with any of them. Now I know some of the characters were meant to be ridiculous, but not to the extent they were. Lets take Helen. The star of the whole movie, the one you are supposed to root for. She's the most moody woman on the planet, shes vindictive, mean, snappy. And why Orlando would vie for her love after she treated him the way she did all throughout the movie is beyond me.Now let's take the crack head mother. What was her name again? I don't remember because she was on screen for an upwards of 3 minutes. So, at the end of the film, she spends one, yes, ONE night in rehab, sings a gospel tune, and is completely cleansed of her addiction. Now, I've seen sappy, ridiculous endings a lot, but this one was unbearable. The over the top Christian undertone (or was it meant to be an overtone?) was completely unnecessary, and took away from the film. The line "Im a good Christian woman" In one of the diary narrative scenes was out of place, and had no effect other than to try and draw in a Christian audience.Overall, this movie was bad. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, to be sure.
