reddragonhero17 This was my first R-rated movie at the age of 8 (I kid you not), but it was for historical teaching purposes. Since that time, I've come back to this many times, and it gets better with each viewing. From the grand opening showing the mountain range of New York, to the epic battles, and the interactions between the characters, most notably Daniel Day Lewis as Hawkeye, you know you're in for something beautiful to look at as well as a story to get involved in. As I said before, Daniel Day Lewis really gets into the character of Hawkeye and the way he works with both friends and enemies, you feel for him. I will admit the love part between him and Cora and can get a little corny, but that's a minor setback, as everything else is done so well. Wes Studi, a veteran Native American actor gives it his all as Magua, the cold Huron Indian villain who becomes twisted from his treatment from others. If you want a real treat, be sure to see this (if you can) on the big screen, as that's the best way to view this movie in all its majesty.
adonis98-743-186503 Three trappers protect a British Colonel's daughters in the midst of the French and Indian War. Daniel Day Lewis gives a career changing perfomance in The Last of the Mohicans, the direction is breath taking with some beautiful shots of trees and rivers but also an amazing soundtrack and a brilliant Theme Song. Michael Mann's best film next to Heat easily and the most motivating and epic film about indians and i don't think that there's a better film on this genre than The Last of the Mohicans. (10/10)
DonAlberto I consider Michael Mann a director of undeniable talent, owner of a decent yet irregular filmography. Thre titles stand out above the rest: The Dilemma, Heat and the Last of the Mohicans. The first two film tell the story of a former worker of a tobacco company who's now willing to testify against them on the grounds that they're using nicotine despite knowing is highly addictive and a modern action movie. The third film is, in my opinion, the best of them all because it's not only a great example of what a action movie should look like but also prove that in this movies crammed with shootings, stunts, fast-paced dialogues, heroes and antiheroes, there's room for characters evolution, as well. And that's quite important considering how many directors are out there who wouldn't sacrifice a good action scene for a dialogue that may drive the film in a different directions. So, aspiring directors out there, you already know what to do, you'd better shape up and free up some space for conversation in your pictures. The last Mohicans is set in a period of History I've always found amazing: colonialism. The clash of cultures between dominant European cultures and Empires such as Great Britain or France and the local population, that is, indians in the broader senses of the word. Whom those indians' loyalties belong? Do they struggle between having to choose a side in the upcoming war between the Frencha are the English?. These and other questions don't find a definite answer in The last of the Mohicans because such a thing is impossible, but at least is a good attempt. Indeed, the film is aimed at telling the story of Hawkwye, played by British actor Daniel Day Lewis, and his role in the war between the European Empires. Along the way, there's enough time to see great action sequences, witty dialogues, changing loyalties and a environment that seems to be telling us something we already know: we are a very complex animal.
Fluke_Skywalker Plot; The white adopted son of a Mohican Chief and the daughter of a British Colonel fall in love against the backdrop of the French and Indian War.Walking a very fine line between historical drama and overheated melodrama, The Last of the Mohicans never quite excels at either. Nevertheless, it's reasonably compelling thanks to top shelf performances from its cast, an epic score by Trevor Jones (with a late game assist by Randy Edelman) and the steady hand of director Michael Mann.
