dinatekno The best thing about this - ahem, movie - is the image that you see as you are scrolling through what to watch. Don't start it, don't waste your time, it won't get better, it has no redeeming qualities. Just STAY away, I'm begging you. You'll never get that time back. Go spend it playing with your dog, cat or kids. Call your mom and say 'hi'. Watch a lava lamp do it's thing, whatever. Anything will be better than this sorry excuse for entertainment. Not even bad/good. This is supposed to be taking place in 1974 & hearing that one guy reminisce about being stuck in 'Nam while 'Charlie' was on the attack made me almost choke on my popcorn. Totally ridiculous. It was the one good laugh I got out of this monstrosity.
crystalandry If your guilty pleasure is a dark night with a horror movie; you may be tempted to pick up "Eaters" by Johnny Tabor. There are not many people who have even heard this title by name. The image depicted on the cover of the movie "Eaters" tantalizes a horror junkie with a creepy scarecrow-like figure. This figure has human-like features covered by a tattered potato sack with large "X"s sewn into the eyes. Sounds interesting enough, Right? This review will look at the facts as I examine this low-budget horror film. This film is an amazing example of a poorly attempted horror flick. The plot was quite unclear. To any low-budget horror fans; you may want to watch the movie before you continue, in order to avoid the spoilers. The beginning of the movie leads you to feel like you are in a House of Wax-esque segment. This feeling lingers throughout the film and leads to a pile-up of questions that go unanswered. You find yourself in the cab of a car with five young adults on a road trip through New Mexico. Barren wasteland is the apparent setting. Driving on a never-ending stretch of two-lane road, they come to an eerie abandoned rest stop. They come face to face with a motorcycle gang. When one of the girls in the group goes missing, her arrogant hot-headed boyfriend is quick to point the finger at the gang of ruffians that were at the rest stop with them. After a brush with death in confronting the bikers, they continue driving and find themselves in need of gas. They all see an old wooden sign with chipped paint indicating down the road is food and gas. They head down the dirt road and decide to follow it to a town that they discovered was deserted. They find themselves without their hot- headed friend as he wanders off into a barn. The other three friends then realize they had been followed by two men from the biker gang, so they hide in fear. The bikers see a child with the same type of eerie sack over it's face. They begin to bully the child as the three friends watch (what we would assume to be the child's father) a large man with a giant wooden mallet defend the child. He knocks out one of the gang members and smashes the other's head like a watermelon with the over-sized mallet. This is where the killing starts. One of the friends died of blood loss from having his tongue cut out by the mysterious man in a sack who had killed the gang member. Another dies at the hands of the leader of the biker gang after traveling by foot along the road to get away from the death- filled-farm-town. The two survivors meet back up and continue traveling down the road until they come to another town. This town is filled with more of the people in sacks that killed their friends. The murderous leader from the last town has followed them and traps one of them as he stays behind to let the last friend survive. She travels as far as she can and passes out. The last scene of the movie shows her being picked up by a stranger that, thankfully, does not have a sack over his head with those haunting black stitches. They ride off into the distance in his truck and the credits populate. The movie itself was heavily flawed. Many unanswered questions that only lead to more questions. So many loose ends and missing information throughout the movie. Most movies, especially horror, are slow to begin. The ending was atrocious. The antagonists were never brought to justice, and yet there was no such cliff-hanger to imply a sequel to gain the necessary information to answer the many questions left before us. I doubt a sequel would be worth the time to see. This was an extreme let-down. When the movie is at its very best it's somewhat entertaining. So much time was wasted to get the story to an entertaining pace. Then there were the small bursts of interesting information that would lead right back into a slow time- wasting segment. I wouldn't suggest this movie. Overall the story was much more appealing in description, but if you like low-budget horrors you just might like it.
namaGemo It's obvious ANARCHYSOAP worked on, or acted in this garbage film. I find it interesting he mentioned character commitment, because while watching this piece of 5hit, I kept laughing at how the actors had absolutely ZERO conviction and telling my girlfriend about it over and over. Especially the least talented guy in the yellow shirt who was supposed to be getting married. He was the absolute worst, with second place going to the annoying 5hithead who gets tied up in the barn. You basically want to see this cast getting killed in the most brutal of ways, minus the girl because her body was pretty rock'n, and she had an attractive yet odd Maggie Gyllenhaal vibe going on. The first few scenes were nicely shot as the Mustang pulls into the rest area, and it makes you think it might be starting out good, and then it just collapses after the girl disappears. I've never seen a more disjointed film. Like 10 minutes of two idiots looking around, and you're thinking, wtf happened to the damn biker gang guy, or this guy, or this girl? I mean really stupid direction and pacing that's just awful. Mostly because instead of fleshing the story out, they added filler. I'd say 85% of this dung was filler. As others have mentioned, laughably long scenes of people hearing others screaming, and looking as if they hear nothing. It reminded me of WCW wrestling with Hulk Hogan seeing the image of the ultimate warrior in his mirror, yet Erik Bischoff couldn't see the warrior. WHA WHA WHAT???SO, endure this feces at your own risk. You have been warned.
David Cromer Low budget movies are one thing, but total lack of acting talent is another. Usually you can find one "actor" that has a modicum of chops, but this is ridiculous. It's as if no one has ever acted a lick. Probably none of them have and they are all friends/relatives of the director. I could've done better and I'm sure I did even in grade school plays.Too many other movies to watch to waste 90 minutes on this train wreck.I would say I've seen worse, but I'm drawing a blank.I will say remember the director's name: Johnny Tabor. That way you can avoid anything else he may have the misfortune of writing and/or directing.
