matsid I liked Kim in this movie (this movie is principally following her character around) and I haven't always liked the characters she has played. Entirely believable. The movie has an interesting premise: co-incidental deaths of Elvis impersonators prior to a major Elvis convention. Corbet plays Corbet; that is, if you liked him in Zwick's 'Big Fat' movie, you'll like him in this. The accidental deaths are funny. Richard Kind was great. David Leisure psyched. Tom Hanks, well, for those who are getting kind of tired of Tom Hanks, you'll probably love this one. Critics who pan this, to quote Sheryl Crow, outta "lighten up." There are some better movies, but there are many more that are worse, and you probably have some of them. The directing is good. The story is well-cut. It flows. It doesn't go stale. It is a very light romantic comedy about Pink Lady, dying Elvis impersonators, and old connections eventually working out. The ending was a hoot! Full marks for Zwick. Hope he does more.
tcb_elvis_fan_club I just loved John Corbett he was so cute and it helped made this movie watchable. Kim Bassinger played a super role too. Some of the E.T.A.;'s well words fail me on them but it was a comedy after all. I enjoyed it.I also love John in "My Fat Greek Wedding". he is so cute. Does anyone know if there'a a fan club for him?I loved the scenes but is it near Laughlin NV?Does John appear in any other movies? I love anything to with Elvis. I loved the shoots at Viva Las Vegas Villas I have stayed there recently.Does anyone know who some of the Elvis guys who appeared in this movie and are they working as Elvis or just did it for the movie?
Michael O'Keefe For starters, if you are an Elvis fan, prepare to laugh your butt off...or just plain be *+ss!d. This comedy is funny and a little sick. Harmony Jones(Kim Basinger)is a traveling cosmetic sales woman...a Pink Lady...primarily pushing lipstick. While on the road, she witnesses an Elvis impersonator(Richard Kind)burst into flames. Trying to avoid being arrested for murder; she hits the road. Along the way, a couple more impersonators(David Leisure and Tom Hanks) bite the dust with Harmony inadvertently involved. Now two hapless FBI agents(Mike Starr and Phill Lewis)are hot on her trail. A bewildered Miss Jones accidentally meets the man of her dreams...a depressed advertising executive(John Corbett), who happens to be taking his estranged wife's(Denise Richards)Elvis suit to an impersonators convention in Vegas. Harmony thinks the suit is his and hopes to avoid harm coming to him. Also in the cast: Sean Astin, Annie Potts and Angie Dickinson. Wayne Newton and Pat Morita appear in cameos. Fluff and fun. Basinger proves to still be an eyeful. Corbett is great in the role sharing the romantic lead.
Mark Sweetwood One of the worst films I have ever seen. How to define "worst?" I would prefer having both eye balls yanked out and then be forced to tap dance on them than ever view this pitiful dreck again. Somehow, One-Hit Wonder Zwick manages a film that simultaneously offends Elvis fans, Mary Kay saleswomen, Las Vegas, gays, FBI agents and the rest of humanity with any intelligence with a shoddy, sloppy farce so forced it deserves to be forsaken ed. How Elvis Presley Enterprises could allow the rights of actual Elvis songs to be used in a film with a central premise that seems to be "The only good Elvis Presley Imitator is a dead one" is beyond me. The worst part of this mess - and that takes some work - is the mangled script: In 1958, Elvis' words and songs that he would speak/perform in the 1970's are quoted! Worst special effect? That Oscar would go to the moron who decided that Elvis' grave, potentially the most photographed/recognizable grave in the world, resembles a pyramid with a gold record glued atop and is situated in the middle of a park somewhere. Potentially, this film's biggest audience would be Elvis fans. However, the rampant stupidity (Nixon gave Elvis a DEA badge, not FBI credentials...and I could go on and on) actually undercuts THAT conventional wisdom. Ugh. I used the word "wisdom" to describe this stupid movie. This is truly a horrible, horrible film.
