sammie-suffocate This has to be one of my favourite movies. It is so lame but so freaking hilarious! Bochman is hilarious and is the perfect actor for this role. Although Allistor bugs me it still is a great and corny movie. <3 Being a stoner myself I get the humour in how they all are and i have a friend that reminds me of Allistor right to the T. I can't wait to see Evil Bong 2&3. The appearance of Tommy Chong was what made the movie freaking amazing and I personally think it had a hilarious ending with Tommy and his hot wheels. 'Do you know where we are? Well do you? Don't you? You better answer me or i'll work on you with a car battery and a grapefruit spoon' Best line ever... or 'Monkey'.
James Bourke There was a time whenever I spotted Charles Band's name before a title, I instantly knew that what I would be watching would be nothing less than brilliant! However this is not the 1980's and those glory days of Empire Pictures have long since diminished. Such classics as 'Zone Troopers' & 'Dolls' have now entered into my hall of fame when it comes to my all time favourite Charles Band produced pictures. As we now know, Charles Band's Empire may have crumbled and for over two decades now the vast majority of his output has been hiding behind a Full Moon shadow, only a handful of titles beyond the endless stream of sequels have truly stood out, these being 'Doctor Mordrid' & 'Lurking Fear'.Whatever the downturn in Charles Band's fortunes can be theorised in many ways, we've all read the articles and heard the whispers of his Fagan like approach to business. Now I could claim to be the Charles Band's biggest fan, granted I am a huge admirer of the man and his movies, be they from his Empire heyday or even to the early days of Full moon.Of course my fandom of Mr Band could probably be usurped by someone else out there in fanland, but ever since my first brush with Empire Pictures and a certain movie called 'Ghoulies' I was instantly hooked. However it saddens me to say, that the output being distributed on DVD over the last couple of years has been less than startling. Yes the titles of these movies have been as ever a major highlight, but the execution has been somewhat lacking. In case anyone wondered, I didn't intend on straying to far from the subject matter at hand, you always need that lead in, and so it that I find myself watching 'Evil Bong' a supposed comedy but still in keeping with Charles Band's fantasy and supernatural themes. To be honest the only original highlight about the movie was the editing courtesy of Danny Draven, and the way he cut between the scenes. As the movie approached the eighteen minute marker I suddenly realised that something was rather amiss, for a stoner comedy, I hadn't laughed. It was only when Jacob Witkin appeared as Arnell's grandfather 'Cyril' that I actually found my smile. His character was similar to that of Rip Torn's foul mouthed world weary Patches O'Houlihan from 'Dodgeball' when he finally exited, it was the same old show.I've often been curious as to who actually writes these scripts for Full Moon, I realise that Full Moon themselves have never accepted unsolicited material, but I would gladly submit an idea to Mr Band for free with no strings attached. There was a run of movies that Band made, sometimes utilising his alias Robert Talbot and the scripts had been penned by Benjamin Carr, now Carr's name sounded so much like an alter ego and sure enough, he was revealed as Neal Stevens. So now I find myself thinking just who is August White, as his name has adorned the last couple of Full Moon flicks. Now whether or not it's the ideas he has to work with or he suffers from a terminal case of writer's block, but the man can't write, he has no ear for dialogue.Bring back C. Courtney Joyner, now there's a screenwriter! Another embarrassing feature to 'Evil Bong' was the cameo's from the likes of Phil Fondacaro, Sonny Carl Davis and more importantly the saddest sight of them all the great Tim Thomerson donning the raincoat to essay the role of Jack Deth for a meaningless walk on.Like I said before, I used to watch a Charles Band production because I knew that I was going to be entertained. These days, they can only be viewed with a critical eye and the biggest sigh the world has ever heard!
NightOfTheLivingDon Usually I enjoy Charles Band's brand of incredibly cheesy comedy/horror/sci-fi schlock. I thoroughly enjoyed his earlier work with HIDEOUS!, HEAD OF THE FAMILY, THE CREEPS, and even have a soft spot in my heart for THE DUNGEONMASTER (even it's poster cameo in TROLL). Surely he has dropped off a little with THE GINGERDEAD MAN, PUPPET MASTER LEGACY, and DOLL GRAVEYARD but the films aren't without the Full Moon Charm. EVIL BONG, too, is not without all that makes a Full Moon movie a Full Moon movie, but I could not give it the usual 5 or 6 star rating for a number of reasons. First though, I can say that parts of this movie were some of the funniest Charles Band has turned out in years. The entire Grandpa in the wheelchair scene had me in stitches. Luann's "I'm horny!" dance was really funny considering my girl has done a similar routine before. Bachman's character, too, provided a chuckle or two. Also, Tommy Chong makes me laugh, and anything he does will make me laugh. I can't accredit that to Band or even the film, though. Really, if it wasn't for grandpa I would have given this one a 3 regardless of Tommy Chong's always funny presence. The rest of the movie basically served as a lame cameo-fest (no character beside the Gingerdead Man has anything memorable or funny to say) and shamelessly plugged Band's completely impractical chain of bras. Plus, the only character that provided a source of interest in the first part of the movie dies first. I've gotten used to Band's credits lasting way too long, but to also put in, as one person stated, THAT 70'S SHOW-esquire pot leaf graphics throughout the film frustrated me. The fact that there are plenty of boobs doesn't save it either. Boobs don't make movies, they only enhance them. Maybe I would have enjoyed it better if I was still in college, if you know what I mean. Maybe I should have been in that special state of mind to truly enjoy the film, but it's too late now. After last night, I doubt I'll ever waste that much time to watch it again. If you're one of those "professional stoners" and must have anything to do with weed (or Tommy Chong) than this will certainly make a nice addition to your collection. I'm pretty sure that's why Band made it in the first place. For anyone else, even for people who enjoy Full Moon, you might want to pass on EVIL BONG.
PoisonKeyblade Who would have thought that a film titled 'Evil Bong' would even be remotely entertaining? After being thoroughly disappointed by Full Moon's last attempt, 'Gingerdead Man', I was skeptical when I heard about this movie. On one hand, I just couldn't get the ridiculous idea of a killer bong out of my head, but I wasn't sure it would be good because of the downward spiral of Full Moon lately. To my surprise, Evil Bong was entertaining, funny, and a return to the roots of what made the Full Moon films so great in the first place. The performances in Evil Bong are all what you'd expect, but the actors in this film deliver just a little bit more. The plot and dialogue are simply preposterous, which is what makes it such a likable movie. If the next Full Moon picture is anything like Evil Bong ended up, I'll be buying the DVD the second it hits the shelves. Don't miss Evil Bong—one of Full Moon's best films to date.
