gahuebshman I've watched this movie for years. It's great. The director Walter Hill knows how to make a great action movie. The cast was a great pick. To bad they can't still make these movies. Real action and no CGI
ray_bradley This film is director Walter Hill's carefully crafted tribute to Sam Peckinpah's "The Wild Bunch." The plot line is different, but the underlying theme of men who are anchored to the past and who have outlived their time on earth runs through the film and permeates every (male) character, albeit heavy-handedly at times (hence, my dinging the film down to a 9-star rating). If you like kicking back to a solid testosterone-charged action flick, you'll love this movie. If you are a student of the history and evolution of the collapse of the Hollywood studio system and the rise of independent film-making, and if you also appreciate the genius that Peckinpah demonstrated in many of his later films, I guarantee that you will find this movie to be wonderfully engaging on many levels and well worth a second viewing. With the possible exception of "Hard Times," I think that this is Walter Hill's best work to date.
Predrag This film came out during the late 80's action movie boom and was sadly lost in a sea of more populate and higher budgeted adventure flicks the year it came out. Terrific performances from Nick Nolte, the underrated Powers Boothe, Michael Ironside, and Rip Torn. Also, memorable turn-ins from Clancy Brown (best known as the Kurgen from 'Highlander'), William Forsythe and Maria C. Alonso. The film focuses on a hard as nails Texas Ranger played by Nick Nolte who is trying to keep his town from becoming overrun by a drug cartel led by his childhood friend. Things become more complicated when a team of elite black ops commandos show up to eliminate the same cartel leader. While this movie passes as a fast paced action film, it plays more like a modern day Western and is all in all a great film. There are some obligatory scenes of tough-guy stuff and nifty, well directed shoot-outs but the various plot elements never let things drag. The action moves so well you can set your watch by it. Hill knows how to set up his shots, and his editor must have had a great time pasting it all together because it moves as smooth as silk.Overall rating: 8 out of 10.
dworldeater What we have here is one hell of a film. Which goes without saying when you have John Milius writing the script and Walter Hill directing it. Also an ensemble cast that includes Nick Nolte , Powers Boothe , Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown , William Forsythe, Maria Conchita Alonso, the dude who played Lamar in Revenge Of The Nerds and more. Extreme Predudice is pretty much The Wild Bunch set in the 1980's on the U.S./Mexican border . It is almost as good as The Wild Bunch also which is a huge compliment as The Wild Bunch is one of the best films ever made. The pacing on this is quicker. Expect lots of action , great dialogue and stellar performances . Most of Walter Hill 's movies are underrated in my opinion and this is one of his finest works. This is also my favorite western in a modern day setting . I also really like Lone Wolf McQuade, which John Milius wrote also( and is my favorite Chuck Norris film). If you are a fan of action films or westerns this is one movie you should check out.
