JACK FROST is another snowbound Russian fairy tale with an interesting, occasionally perplexing storyline to keep you intrigued throughout. The tale is about a pair of young lovers who have to contend with an evil old witch who decides to make their lives hell. The girl is mistreated by her family while the boy is assaulted by a mysterious mushroom-headed magician and turned into a human bear.If that sounds all rather odd then it is, but in the best Russian tradition. I do like the atmosphere of these films and the sheer amount of effort having gone into the special effects and action sequences. The mystical, snow-covered landscape is very well realised here and subsequently the film has a strong visual look to it. Scenes of the characters being attacked by living trees and the titular character using magic to cover the land in snow are great fun, if you can overlook the inherent cheesiness and bad dubbing.

Very beautiful and kind fairy tale. I watched it when I was a baby. And I will show this film to my children. Because it is one of the best. I would like to write that all the above comments are unfair. And I would indicate an obvious fact that we have our own unique culture, its fairy-tale characters that look strange for foreigners. But no one still does not understand. I will write only that all who wrote reviews disgusting about my favorite fairy tale are dolboebi! Speaking about the moment when the evil stepmother does beet makeup her daughter, so do American women in preparing their young beautiful daughters in a beauty contest. Beauty needs to be as natural as Anastasia.

Well, the only thing that can be said is, those bad reviews of the film can only be caused by the lack of knowledge of anything but for everyday routine and also by a lack of culture and education, or self-education. Perhaps, the interpretation into English is far from ideal (though I haven't watched it translated). I can say that there's a certain thing common to all those 'scornful' reviews: no desire on the part of their authors to find out more information and a certain bias to see something morbid or strange even in the purest and most innocent things. And a very poor knowledge of anything but English culture. No objective knowledge of Russian culture or history, no wish to compare. It should also be remembered that it's a children's film, so if the reviewers have forgotten how they used to feel as children, perhaps too early in their lives, they can only be pitied.

The point is that Russian (soviet) mentality was clean and strong, so we had no headache after watching this film. I just can't understand some comments. They are all Americans. It's why on every 100 Russian girls in any Russian town you can meet 40 or even 50 beautiful babes, meanwhile on 100 American girls only 10 or even 5 pretty. It's sad to talk about but the main factor in this difference between us is the soviet mentality - "no god no evil". Oh, God forgive me! You are the best. Look what a stupid cartoon movies produced in USA. Like Beavis and Butthead, or Simpsons. In imprison with Morozko 95 % of American movie industries for kids are producing the meaningless stupidest works. There is some good items, but they are exclusion. Have faith!
