maureenfox-19518 Classic British film at its best, filled with both tears and laughter. The writer placing those one liners in that most of us wish we had the nerve to say but dont ,then regret that for years. The hardship of missing someone and the good that the people they leave behind find with the inclusion that dear departed left instilled within them.A truly lovely thought provoking film that will stay within your mind long after you watch it.
taylor_king-890-815491 Cynics beware, you will not like this film! For everyone else, this is a highly entertaining couple of hours watching accomplished British actors portray characters of a certain age struggle with lost loves, challenging conditions, and betrayal. These charismatic actors, that seem familiar to us because we've seen them in "Harry Potter" movies or BBC mysteries, engaged me in a heartbeat. They are natural and present themselves with the badges of aging without apology. The scripting was too broad and cliche in the beginning scenes, but I stopped thinking about that as the story unfolded and touching scenes won me over. And there is something about watching people dance themselves out of misery that is so beautiful, it renews my spirit!
TheLittleSongbird 'Finding Your Feet' is my kind of film, being British myself, being very fond of a lot of the cast, loving feel-good films and the story was one that interested me on paper. The trailer also looked good and generally the British do feel good with comedy and drama mixes brilliantly. Was not expecting a masterpiece watching 'Finding Your Feet', all that was wanted was something that made me laugh, cry and probe thought. 'Finding Your Feet' did all three of those things and made me proud to be British. Went into the cinema feeling low and on edge and came out of it beaming from ear to ear, tears in my eyes and with my heart warmed. To me, that is exactly my definition of a lovely, worthwhile film. Is 'Finding Your Feet' a perfect film? No. It is very predictable with some outcomes not hard to figure out from miles away, clichéd and sometimes sentimentality is laid on too thick. They may be things that are concerns for some viewers, but the film did so much right and did those things so brilliantly that it was difficult to be too hard on it.Really loved the writing here. The humour is gentle but also very smart and there are some legitimately hilarious moments elevated by the cast's delivery. This is balanced with the emotional dramatic elements, this balance is achieved with no favouring and the drama is very poignant. Admittedly, 'Finding Your Feet' may be very predictable, but it is difficult to be hard on it for that because of how big a heart of gold it has and the amount of uplifting charm it has. It's also thought-provoking and insightful and touches upon subjects relevant and resonant to everybody, one is never too old or young to appreciate or enjoy the film. The characters are warm and charming, far from cardboard stereotypes, and while the dancing may not be great there is something very appealing in how it is purposefully not made to be. The gentle pace and sympathetic direction suits the tone and content very well, and the immensely talented cast all round perform beautifully with Timothy Spall, Celia Imrie and Imelda Staunton giving the best performances.Overall, a lovely refreshing film that succeeded at what it tried to be and set out to do. 8/10 Bethany Cox
chrisjhembury Finding Your Feet ****Finding Your Feet is British Romantic Comedy Drama telling a mature love story of life, starting again and discovering yourself. The story see Lady Abbot a high class socialite who discovers that her Husband of 34 years has been having a on going affair and is forced to stay with her free spirited poor sister. The film delivers on all sides of it's mixed genre format perfectly blending the comedy the romance and a healthy dose of Drama that cements the story and various points is spot on.The rarity of a mature Rom Com being made is totally capitalized on by the amazing array of talent they have in the cast. Everyone involved smashes their lines and relishes the scenes which they most know do not come along that often in the mainstream for their age.Imelda Staunton and Celia Imrie as the sisters work very well together whether they are arguing, bonding or crying there is a chemistry that hits the screen.Timothy Spall as a leading love interest is not something ever associated with the actor and yet fits the part superbly gritty, heart felt, comedic and tender. The first hour shoots bye with a well paced scripted story that delivers not only the laughs but the dramatic moments as well. The care that has gone into the characters is refreshing with almost everyone having a back story, with them all being tragic with works in contrast to the happiness they put out. There's a slight halt in pace at the mid way point which is not long lasting and replaced with tidy third act that delivers a beautiful story that should leave the audience with a smile.A love story that looks at life with a such a over view it begs the question of not just love but the meaning of happiness that only occurs in such overview until older years. To pull off that maturity in the Romantic Comedy genre whilst still hitting all the right beats is a real achievement and a wonderful additional to famous British Rom Com collection.
