Ersbel Oraph These are two movies. Sold as one. And the limit is pretty precise at half time. The two share the cast, making it more like Fun with Dick and Jane 1 and Fun with Dick and Jane 2.The first movie is something of a rich man's socialist take on the big corporation. It is badly done and rather ironic as it is socialism for the upper middle class to which the writer belongs. The poor are an unpleasant caricature going as far as turning the dirt poor Mexican immigrants into a clown ensemble together with a large number of clowns falling over each other or getting into a too small car in droves. Overall the first story is very unpolished and although it might have a story line, it is lost in the sermon with the bad 1% wrecking the good life of the poor who drive imported cars and care about their lawn like any law abiding citizen should. The second movie is another mindless slapstick Jim movie. It is the one the public has been expected and most probably the reason why the end result has such good reviews and ratings. In the second movie there is no attempt at having a story. But it is mildly funny. It is nothing like Jim's previous movies, but it can be a pleasant after dinner movie. In short: jump over the first 40 minutes and you will get a mediocre, yet amusing movie.Contact me with Questions, Comments or Suggestions ryitfork @ bitmail.ch
Reno Rangan I thought I have seen almost all the films of Jim Carrey, but then I found that's not true, so I decided to start with this. This is a remake of the 70s film or you could say the second screen adaptation of the novel of the same name. I haven't seen the other version, but I must admit that I enjoyed it thoroughly. This is not the greatest comedy I have ever seen, but still so good with great performances, particularly Jim Carrey's.A simple storyline, a couple loses their jobs and they find hard to get another. They begin to lose one by one, everything that belongs to them and finally the house is the last thing they want to lose. So they plan to do something very serious thing to tackle their situation and seems its working out so well, but for how long. Then comes their masterplan to the permanent solution and how they accomplish it is what leads to the conclusion. The film was so fast, feels too short or like a TV episode. That means makes us to feel to have more, but it ends very nice way. The story might feel silly, but the comedies are so good. And if you like Jim Carrey and his trademark jokes, then you would have a great time. Truly, I haven't seen a good comedy from the recent time releases, so I'm happy I saw this, even though it is a decade old. There's no serious negative stuffs in it like drugs, sex or nudity, so I think it is okay for family viewing.7/10
Desertman84 Fun with Dick and Jane is a remake of the 1977 comedy of the same title. It stars Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni as Dick and Jane Harper, an upper- middle-class couple who resort to robbery after the company for which Dick works goes bankrupt. Alec Baldwin, Richard Jenkins, Angie Harmon, John Michael Higgins, Richard Burgi, Carlos Jacott, Gloria Garayua and Stephnie Weir also star in supporting roles. It was written by Judd Apatow and directed by Dean Parisot.Dick Harper and his wife, Jane, would seem to have it made considering that Dick has a high-paying job, they live in an expensive house in the suburbs, they have two luxury cars in the driveway, and a housekeeper, Blanca to help look after their son, Billy. But Dick and Jane's fairy- tale life crashes head-on into reality when the firm Dick works for turns out to have been using unscrupulous accounting methods to disguise the fact they've been losing money hand over fist, and he has been made the fall guy for some of their dirty dealings. Suddenly flat broke, they must find a new way to support their lavish lifestyle, and in time they resort to criminal activities.Remakes are always a gamble, so it's a pleasant surprise that the movie pays off with unexpected dividends. It's as entertaining as the original starring George Segal and Jane Fonda, and the teaming of Jim Carrey and Téa Leoni makes this a safe bet for comedy fans. But the slapstick screenplay fails to achieve its fullest potential. It starts off silly, soon becomes funny and then skyrockets into irrepressible hilarity. But unfortunately,it does not sustain a consistent tone.
tomb_92 I quite liked this. As a Jim Carrey fan I am glad to see that he is showing off his acting skills lately instead of just doing that silly thing he did in Ace Ventura (which is funny, but I realise not to everybody's taste). Carrey does act in this but does a little of what he does normally, like in Bruce Almighty. Tea Leoni does what she always does but is also funny and has good chemistry with Carrey. The plot is simple but funny. I have to say I did laugh a good few times and if you don't laugh I think you will be hard-pressed not to smile at the ending. Sure it's not the funniest or wittiest comedy ever but it is enjoyable and fun to watch with all your family.
